On this day in 1934, the Silly Symphony cartoon ‘The Goddess of Spring’ was released. The short told the story of Persephone, the Greek Goddess of Spring, and her relationship with Pluto, God of the Underworld. This short was an important first attempt at animating human subjects in preparation for the full-length feature, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ The animators needed more training in anatomy, so they were given classes to improve their skills.
