On this day in 1999, astronaut and United States Senator John Glenn was presented the “Frank G. Wells Award” by the Walt Disney Company. The award was established in Frank Wells’ honor after he passed away suddenly in 1994. It was to be given to a non-educator who exemplified the best qualities of teachers, including civility, humility, and respect for all humanity. John Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth and the third American in space. [25 years ago in 2024]
