On this day in 1929, actor Ed Asner was born. Pixar fans know him best for portraying the grumpy-but-loveable old man Carl Fredricksen in 2009’s ‘Up’ and the related shorts and games, like ‘Dug Days’ and ‘Carl’s Date.’ Asner was also well known for his TV role as Lou Grant on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ and its drama spinoff ‘Lou Grant.’ Combined, the role won him five Emmys. Asner won seven Emmys in total, more than any other male performer. [95 years ago in 2024]
