On Saturday, September 28, 2024, magic was made by Disney Legend Martha Blanding and Disney historian Tim O’Day for hundreds of guests who purchased and then had their new book, Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through The Happiest Place on Earth, signed at three locations throughout the Disneyland Resort.
The signing took place first Disneyana at Disneyland, then moved to Wondergound Gallery in Downtown Disney District, and then finally Off the Page at Disney California Adventure. At each location, fans eagerly waited in line to meet the duo. The two authors took time with all of the guests and frequently took pictures with them as well.
The book tells the story of Disney Legend Martha Blanding. Martha’s Disney career began in 1971 when she became a Tour Guide at Disneyland. This started a career that spanned five decades and saw her become the first Black VIP Tour Guide and then she eventually became the first Black woman to hold a leadership position at the Disneyland Resort. She became the Senior Manager, Disneyland Resort Merchandise Special Events, and co-founded PULSE, a Business Employee Resource Group for Black Cast Members and employees. She also became the first Black American to achieve a half-century-long career with The Walt Disney Company.
Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through The Happiest Place on Earth will officially be released on October 1st and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.
