On July 17, 2024, the Disneyland Resort celebrated the 69th birthday of The Happiest Place on Earth. On July 17, 1955, Walt Disney stood in the middle of Town Square and said the following words:
“To all that come to this happy place, welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America… with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world.“
Those words were heard again at Disneyland during a special birthday cavalcade that made its way from it’s a small world to Town Square on Main Street, USA to celebrate the day. The cavalcade stopped on both Main Street and then again in Town Square. There, after a few words spoken by the director of the Disneyland Band Peter Connell, Walt Disney’s iconic speech was played over speakers. The Disneyland Band, Dapper Dans, Disney character, Disneyland Ambassadors, and all in attendance then sang Happy Birthday to Disneyland. This culminated with the shooting of confetti at the end. The celebration was short and it was sweet.
The Daps Magic team was on hand to film this special cavalcade. This year, four team members with cameras were placed throughout Town Square to capture the cavalcade. They were then edited together to create the following video for Disneyland’s 69th birthday. Watch it and then see the photos of the moment after the video.
The day also saw pins on sale to commemorate the 69th birthday and a new ticket deal for Anaheim residents. There weren’t any announcements about what will be coming for the 70th anniversary, however. 10 years earlier, the 59th birthday is when the 60th anniversary celebration was announced. It is possible that any 70th anniversary announcement is being held for D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event next month.
