On Sunday, July 21, 2024, nearly 6,000 supporters of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County arrived before the sun at the Disneyland Resort for the 2024 CHOC Walk in the Park! This included approximately 300 teams! The morning was a beautiful one, in stark contrast to last year when the rain was pouring down from the remnants of Hurricane Hilary. As the sun began to glow on the horizon, thousands streamed onto Main Street for the start of this year’s CHOC Walk in the Park!
At approximately 5:45 AM, the opening ceremony began at the top of Main Street, USA with DJ Wendy warming up the crowd before. During the opening ceremony, Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Norma Campos Kurtz, Disneyland Ambassadors, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock, CHOC President and CEO Kimberly Chavalas Cripe, and this year’s CHOC Ambassador Kara all took turns speaking. They were joined by the Incredibles to kick off the morning and send people off into the park! Take a look at this special ceremony here:
Throughout the course through Disneyland Resort this year, there were dozens of characters and magical moments to be seen and experienced by the walkers. As they made their way through Disneyland and Disney California Adventure for this 5k, they were greeted by characters like Indiana Jones, Chewbacca, and Rey, along with friends from Toy Story, The Princess and the Frog, Cars, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins, Inside Out 2, and many more! Mickey and friends were also on hand to help cheer the walkers on!
For over 30 years, the CHOC Walk in the Park has raised money to support CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County). This event has raised over $44 million for Orange County’s only pediatric health system. This health system provides care and kindness for the kids and their families that enter through CHOC’s doors. It can be a very difficult and scary time for families and the doctors and staff at CHOC are there to not just provide medical. They also provide care for people’s hearts. They provide encouragement, and love, and help kids be kids while going through difficult situations.
There are few more noble causes than supporting children who are struggling. CHOC Walk in the Park provides the opportunity to support children and their families.
