R2 Astromech Droid - Bard - Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge - Disneyland

R1 Series Astromech Droid Joins ‘Fire of the Rising Moons’ in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland

During Season of the Force, Star Wars fans and Disneyland guests have gotten to experience fireworks in a new way when visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The beautiful fireworks that light up the sky on most nights is now accompanied by the iconic Star Wars scores of John Williams. The experience is called Fire of the Rising Moons. The show opens with Tohan Lege, a storyteller, who introduces the celebration. This is done with the aid of an old R1 astromech droid he found in Black Spire Outpost. Tohan Lege mentions the droid, but this droid wasn’t seen. Tonight, this changes and guests will be able to see the droid.

The R1 droid, named Bard, will now be seen as a part of the Fire of the Rising Moons experience. He will debut tonight. Disneyland shared a photo of what Bard looks like. He can be seen here:

R1 Series Astromech Droid – “Fire of the Rising Moons” at Disneyland Park: A modified R1 series astromech droid named “Bard” is featured at the Black Spire Spaceport during “Fire of the Rising Moons” at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif. “Fire of the Rising Moons” is a nighttime experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that highlights a different view of the stunning Disneyland Park fireworks display, with musical accompaniment. Including selections from composer John Williams’ Star Wars film scores, “Fire of the Rising Moons” can be enjoyed from multiple areas in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, including the Black Spire Spaceport, the TIE Echelon docking platform, and the speeder garage. Here is the full official story of Tohan Lege and Bard:

Introducing the celebration is Tohan Lege, the storyteller known as the Lore-weaver. Pursued by those in power who would silence his voice, Tohan adopted Black Spire as his home and wrote of its colorful history and the fiery spirit at its heart. His droid, who he fondly called Bard, allows us to hear the Lore-weaver in his own words, each night as Black Spire celebrates the Fire of the Rising Moons.

He met and spoke to anyone he could, and began to record its history. To ensure that the stories would endure, Tohan found an old astromech droid left behind at the Depot. The mechanics helped him get it working with scrap parts and luck. Tohan called the droid Bard, and together they recorded the Lore-weaver’s stories, until there were no more to tell.

Fire of the Rising Moons is offered on nights when fireworks grace the skies over Disneyland. This is an offering that will continue beyond Season of the Force when it ends on June 2, 2024. Here is a look at Fire of the Rising Moons on May the 4th:
