On this day in 1935, the classic Aesop’s fable “The Tortoise and the Hare” was released as a ‘Silly Symphony’ cartoon. Toby Tortoise teaches Max Hare the famous lesson that slow and steady wins the race. Toby beats the odds to prevail over Max, who is distracted from the race when he stops to show off. The short would win an Academy Award for Best Short Cartoon!
