This morning the Pixar Place Hotel at the Disneyland Resort officially opened. This new hotel is a celebration of the stories and characters that have been created by Pixar Animation Studios. This reimagined 15-story hotel overlooks Disney California Adventure and has more magic and amenities than ever before.
A ceremony was held in front of the hotel to officially open the hotel. Everything began with a “stage manager” who was prepping the space for the big opening event. She was soon joined by Edna Mode as the final preparations were made. This made for a fun moment with the two before being joined by Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible, and Frozone. This trio was needed by the stage manager to help move the big Pixar lamp and ball in the entrance lobby. As they ran off to do just that, within moments it was time for the main event to begin.
The event was hosted by Disneyland Ambassador Jada Young. After welcoming members of the media and honored guests to the event, she invited Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock to the stage. He shared his excitement about the opening of this first Pixar-themed hotel in the United States. He also thanked the Walt Disney Imagineers, Pixar teams, and the Disneyland Resort cast members. Each of these groups helped bring this magical hotel to life. He also shared a bit about this hotel’s place in the Disneyland Resort bigger picture and the experience guests have when they visit. This not only included the experience guests have when entering the hotel and staying there, but also the culinary offerings thanks to the Great Maple team.
“We are a 69 year young property and I’m incredibly proud of the fact that over that 69 years, we’ve had an ongoing partnership with the city of Anaheim. And that’s incredible important as we have a relationship built on win-wins,” Potrock said. He shared how both Disney and the residents of Anaheim win between business successes and the new amenities and benefits for Anaheim. “We think this is a great great example, of not just that partnership, but that vision we have going forward.” He then shared how when people come to the Disneyland Resort from around the world, it is exciting for the Anaheim Resort District and the Disneyland Resort. These people visiting help benefit the city through the revenue that is generated. Potrock wrapped up saying that he and his team believes that “our best days are still ahead.” He then pivoted to introducing the Chief Creative Officer for Pixar Animation Studios, Pete Docter.
Pete Docter hopped up on stage and shared about how he started at Pixar in 1990, working on Toy Story. He said how they never dreamed that 27 films later that there would be a hotel dedicated to Pixar. Docter continued on sharing about all of the amazing different details that are found throughout the hotel. He then congratulated the Pixar team before inviting some “friends” out. At this point, quite a few different Pixar characters made their way on and in front of the stage. This included, Woody, Buzz, Miguel, Carl, Russell, and Joy. They joined Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater, who were on hand for the entire ceremony. Docter than realized that there was someone missing. This turned out to be Bing Bong, from Inside Out. As the crowd cheered, Bing Bong made his way to the stage and as confetti shot into the air, the Pixar Place Hotel officially opened!
The opening of the Pixar Place Hotel is the culmination of over three years of works by teams from different parts of The Walt Disney Company. This included teams from Walt Disney Imagineering, Pixar Animation Studios, and more. Throughout the day, Daps Magic had the opportunity to chat with some of the people who brought this new iteration of this hotel to life. Be sure to subscribe to Daps Magic to not miss any of the coverage about all of the new and exciting things that can be found at the Pixar Place Hotel (along with tours).
Bing Bong will be meeting with guests at the Pixar Place Hotel daily. He will generally be found outside on the third floor near the outdoor pool deck with his wagon.
