It probably comes as no surprise that the top story of the year is the Walt Disney Company and Studios turning 100 this year. From theme parks to movies, there was celebration throughout.
Disneyland kicked it all of in January with decorations throughout both theme parks and two new night shows. Wondrous Journeys has become a classic Disney fireworks show. Over at Walt Disney World it wasn’t until the Fall that festivities were kicked off, and with Epcot being the hub. It culminated with the opening of World Celebration on Walt Disney’s birthday. Throughout the world the other parks joined in with some limited time photo ops and shows.
On the studios side, each film started to have a special opening to commemorate those premiering during the 100 year celebration. The classic castle opening was joined with a 100 logo for this year.
Wish premiered in November with homages to animated films in the history of Walt Disney Studios, and a commemoration of the wishful thinking that has been the fabric of the company. Once Upon a Studio was a crowning achievement of a short that debuted on the company’s anniversary. It has gained recognition for touching on every feature animated film of the company and studio.
It is a remarkable achievement to be making films, theme parks, television series, nature documentaries, sports casting, and memories for 100 years. Disney has reached a huge achievement and a long lasting place in culture and hearts and minds of people throughout the world. So, here’s to another 100 years and more!
