Recently when visiting Tokyo Disneyland I had the opportunity to experience some attractions that were very familiar to me, yet also very different. One of these attractions was the Country Bear Jamboree. This version of the attraction is very similar to the one currently found at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. It also is a bit different as it is predominantly performed in Japanese with some English sprinkled in.
Found in Westernland, walking into the Country Bear Theater was a very familiar experience as it felt very much like what it was like to walk into the iteration of the attraction at the Magic Kingdom. While the lobby was slightly different, it had the same vibe and familiar art. Inside the theater itself was nearly identical. Well… it was until the show was announced in Japanese and Buff, Mel, and Marvin started speaking in Japanese as well! This made for a very fun viewing experience as the songs sung in Japanese I knew…but didn’t. Then the songs that were sung in English made for a nice dose of comfortable familiarity. In some ways, it was very much like the entire trip was. I could follow along on a lot of things but when I did hear English it was almost a relief from tension I didn’t realize existed.
Below is a look at this classic Western-style musical review with iconic animatronic bears. The show runs about 15 minutes long and from what I could tell, doesn’t generally have much of a wait. It is a great way to get in from a hot day, a humid day, a rainy day, or just to get off your feet for a few minutes.
