The first official set photo has been released for the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The photo shows a clapper just before a scene is shot with Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura on the bridge of the Enterprise. The caption for the photo reads: “Hailing frequencies are open. Hello from the set of #StarTrek #StrangeNewWorlds Season 3 👋” It was shared on the Star Trek on Paramount+ Instagram account.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds was renewed before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The strikes did delay the start of production on the third season of the series, however. Now that work has resumed, fans are one step closer to finding out what happens to Captain Pike and the crew of the Enterprise after the cliffhanger at the end of season two.
At this point, an exact release window for the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has not been announced. It has been reported that filming will continue through June 2024 for the series. With that timeline, it would be unsurprising if the third season didn’t arrive on Paramount+ until 2025. Paramount+ also hasn’t confirmed how many episodes will be in the third season. However, the first two seasons have been ten episodes a piece so it would be reasonable to surmise that the third season would be the same.
The finale of the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds had the crew of the Enterprise facing off against the Gorn, and it isn’t going well. Adding to the tension, the USS Kayuga was involved in the conflict and then destroyed by the Gorn before the Enterprise arrived. The Kayuga was commanded by Captain Marie Batel, with whom Captain Pike is romantically involved. Things continue to go from bad to worse as the Gorn take some of the Enterprise crew hostages. The episode ends with Captain Pike on board the Enterprise and the crew awaiting his orders to either attack or retreat from the Gorn. It might be quite some time before fans find out what happens next.
