New Details and Completion Timeline Released for San Fransokyo Square at Disney California Adventure

Anyone who has walked through the Pacific Wharf area of Disney California Adventure recently can see that Disney is at work rapidly transforming this area into San Fransokyo Square. Since being announced at the D23 Expo last year by Disney Parks, Experiences and Product Chairman Josh D’Amaro, fans of Big Hero Six have been eagerly waiting to experience this new destination. Today, Disney released some new details about San Fransokyo Square, including a timeline for when it will be completed.

San Fransokyo Square is currently scheduled to be completed sometime in mid-August Disney has shared. Elements of the square will begin to open in mid-July. With less than two months to go, there are a lot of features and details that can already be found when walking around the area. Daps Magic team member Angela shot video on Sunday of the progress that is being made on San Fransokyo Square. There are plenty of references to the world of Big Hero 6 already showing up with more to come.

Along with announcing the timeline for completion for San Fransokyo Square, Disney also shared some details about the different dining and shopping options that will be enjoyed in the area. Starting in mid-July, new offerings will be available at Lucky Fortune Cookery, and the Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería will officially open. In the weeks that follow, this “thriving seaside plaza” will be introducing new shopping and dining opportunities. Once the transformation is completed, there will also be street art and colorful banners decorating the area along the parade route from the Cappuccino Cart to the The Bakery Tour. This will be in celebration of the Big Hero 6 team’s victory over Yokai.

San Fransokyo Square Businesses & Destinations

There will also be new businesses to stop by when visiting San Fransokyo Square. This will include places to grab food and beverages and also to do some shopping. Guests will also be able to meet Hiro and Baymax when visiting the square.

Hamada Bot Shop

The Hamada Bot Shop is where the Big Hero 6 team builds and innovates their hi-tech gear. Hiro and Baymax will be meeting with guests outside the Hamada Bot Shop. Eagle eyed guests who are visiting may be able to see a few upcoming inventions inside the shop while waiting to see the most huggable (Baymax is giving Winnie the Pooh a run for his money) friend and his friend Hiro.

San Fransokyo Maker’s Market

The San Fransokyo Maker’s Market will be near the Hamada Bot Shop. This location will be where guests can purchase unique apparel, homewares and more featuring Baymax and friends. This will also be a fun location to visit to look for connections with Big Hero 6, specifically in the robot storage cases with decommissioned battle bots. Keep a sharp eye out above in the rafters to find Hiro’s Megabot, the local battlebot champion.

Just across the way from the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market there is a vending machine that will have collectible golden medallions featuring Baymax along with other images from San Fransokyo.

Aunt Cass Café

For those looking for food, Aunt Cass Café is the second bakery café that is operated by Hiro’s loving aunt. This location will serve dishes, soups in the freshly-baked Boudin sourdough bread bowls and more that is all inspired by Japanese cuisine. The outside of this quick service restaurant will showcase a mural of Aunt Cass’ lucky pet cat, Mochi.

Rita’s Turbine Blenders

Rita’s Turbine Blenders is an old fishing tannery right across from Aunt Cass Café that has been converted into a giant drink dispenser with margaritas and icy beverages. The stand is owned and named after the repair technician who maintains the floating wind turbine. It resembles a giant koi fish, which also happens to sit on top of the structure.

Cocina Cucamonga, Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, and Lucky Fortune Cookery

Along with the new locations mentioned above, there will be some updates to the menus at some current destinations that will become a part of San Fransokyo Square. Cocina Cucamonga, Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, and Lucky Fortune Cookery will all be getting additions to their menus as part of the transformation. Disney promises that details about the future cuisine offerings will be coming soon.
