Disney and DeSantis

Disney Continues to Win the Popularity Contest in Feud with Governor DeSantis

As the feud between Governor DeSantis and The Walt Disney Continues there are more than legal battles happening between the two parties. As mentioned a few weeks ago, there is also the battle of public opinion. When last checked, this was a battle that Disney was winning. Now, new polls have come out that continue to add data points to this disagreement. These polls don’t change the trend that was seen before.

The Polls

According to a new Newsweek poll, nearly 50% of the respondents had some level of positive feelings toward Disney. This included seeing Disney in a “favorable” or “very favorable” light. This isn’t the only new data point however for the battle of public opinion.

Another poll by Redfield and Wilton, 1,500 eligible voters were asked the following question:  “To what extent, if at all, do you have a favorable or unfavorable view of Disney?”

In response, 46 percent responded that they had some level of positive feelings toward Disney. Breaking those numbers down a bit more, 20% said they had a “very favorable” view of Disney and another 26% said they had a “favorable” view of the company. On the flip side, 13% of respondents said they had an “unfavorable” view of The Walt Disney Company. Another 11% of people had a “very unfavorable” view of Disney and 24% had neither a “favorable or unfavorable” opinion. Finally, 6% didn’t know what view they had of Disney. This poll was taken on June 25th,

In contrast, according to FiveThirtyEight, Governor DeSantis sits at a favorability level of 36% and his unfavorability is currently at 45%. This is marks a rise in his unfavorables by 9% since March. His favorables have gone down by 4% since their peak in February.

While not as comprehensive in numbers as the last point that the battle of public opinion was looked at, these new data points continue to show a trend of Disney moving forward, making magic, and continuing to be viewed fairly positive. On the flip side, Governor DeSantis appears to be struggling with popularity on a nationwide basis as he turns his focus from the issues of the State of Florida and the controversy with Disney to running for President of the United States.

Recent Disagreement Updates

In other areas of this feud, the federal lawsuit Disney brought against Governor DeSantis and other Florida leaders continues to slowly move forward. A briefing filed by DeSantis hopes that the case will go to trial in 2025, after the presidential election. Disney would like the lawsuit to be tried next summer. DeSantis has also asked for this case to be dismissed. At the state level, Disney has asked for the lawsuit brought against it by the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District to be dismissed as well. All of these filings are waiting to be ruled on by their respective judges.

Daps Magic will continue to watch these trends and provide updates as more data points become available.
