Sir Patrick Stewart Says There Will Be “Thrilling” Surprise With Beverly Crusher in Season 3 of ‘Star Trek: Picard’

It is just weeks until the third season of Star Trek: Picard and more information about what is coming is being shared by the showrunner and cast of the series. Sir Patrick Stewart, who stars as Picard and also is an executive producer on the show, is sharing more about the coming season. He promises that it will be “thrilling”, particularly regarding what happens with Doctor Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). There are also some other potentially surprising changes coming from some of the former crew of the USS Enterprise-D.

There are potential spoilers ahead so if you want to go into the season and be surprised, don’t pass the following photo!

Star Trek: Picard - Beverly Crusher

The events of Star Trek: Picard takes place basically in real time for the actors from when they last came together. Picard takes place a couple of decades after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. This is true in the world of Star Trek and also true for the actors who last came together about twenty years ago. The showrunners are embracing the fact that time has gone by and people have aged and putting that into the story. In the case of the beginning of season three of Picard, both Admiral Picard and Doctor Crusher haven’t talked in quite a while. Sir Patrick Stewart talked about Picard getting a message from Crusher and how it impacted him.

He felt abandoned by Crusher—she just disappeared out of his life. He adored her and that was never resolved. [But she has a] surprise, when she appears, that thrills and then enrages him.

It is already known that season three of Picard will begin with an attack on Crusher’s ship, the SS Eleos. This is a medical ship that Crusher is working aboard. After Admiral Picard gets the distress call from Crusher, he reaches out to his old friend Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes) to go and help rescue her from Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer).

Star Trek: Picard - Worf

There are also changes coming for Worf. Presumably, he is now a Captain in Starfleet. Showrunner Terry Matalas has shared that the events of the Picard books are being used as part of this season’s canon. This means that Worf was the Captain of the Enterprise-E after Picard was promoted to Admiral. However, more things have changed than just his rank.

The change to his personality is one of the most delightful things this season. He becomes increasingly complex, where in Next Generation you always knew what [gruff] response you’d get from him.

As was seen in the most recent trailer, Worf now prefers “prefers pacifism to combat.”  Prefer doesn’t mean that is all he does, however. He still carries a new sword so combat is clearly not out of the realm of possibility.

There will be more clues revealed about the third season of Picard in the not-too-distant future whenever a new trailer is released.

When exactly the trailer will drop is anybody’s guess. There are a few moments that would make sense, including the upcoming NFL AFC Championship game, which airs on CBS and Paramount+.
