It appears that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is currently on hold. Bloomberg is reporting that both the art director and design director for the game were fired. This came after a demo of the game was shown to Lucasfilm and Sony.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was originally announced last September by Sony. Developer Aspyr Media, which is owned by Embracer Group, has not revealed a timeline for the game’s release. The game has been in development for three years now. Originally, it was thought that it would be released later in 2022. However, now the “realistic target” that Bloomberg is sharing is more like 2025.
Saber Interactive, another Embracer Group studio, is also working on the game. It is thought by some at Aspyr that Saber might take over the project entirely. However, neither Aspyr, Embracer Group, nor Sony offered comment to Bloomberg for its article.
When Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic does eventually get released, it will be exclusively for PS5 at first. This isn’t the only Star Wars game in the works. Other titles in the works include a sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Eclipse, and an untitled game from Amy Hennig’s new studio.
