The Aristocats is the newest film to get the animation to live-action remake treatment at Disney. Variety has confirmed that the 1970 animated musical is being made into a live-action film.
The new version of The Aristocats has Will Gluck, who directed Peter Rabbit and Onward scribe Keith Bunin is the script. Gluck is also producing with his Olive Bridge Entertainment banner.
The original The Aristocats was released in 1970 and directed by Disney animator Wolfgang Reitherman. It was about a family of aristocratic cats. When the butler finds out they are set to inherit a fortune, he kidnaps the cats and ends up abandoning them in the country. The cats must then find their way home before the butler steals their inheritance, with the help of a new alley cat friend.
The original movie had an impressive collection of vocal talent. It included Phil Harris, Eva Gabor, Hermione Baddeley, Dean Clark, Sterling Holloway, Scatman Crothers, and Roddy Maude-Roxby. The song Everybody Wants to Be a Cat and the main theme song The Aristocats became quite well known. It earned $191 million globally at the box office.
At this point, it is unknown who will be lending their voice to this film. It is also unknown if any of the songs from the original will be used. Whether it heads to the theaters or Disney+ remains to be seen as well. While the previous was released in theaters, blu-ray, and Disney+ before being removed from children’s profiles, anything is possible for this one.
