Biopic About Jim Henson in the Works at Disney

Disney and The Jim Henson Company are teaming up on a new biopic on Jim Henson. Called, Muppet Man, this is the story about the man behind The Muppets. The movie will cover the highlights of Henson’s life. This will include the creation of Sam and Friends while Henson was at the University of Maryland. This was a five minute puppet show on television that featured Rowlf the Dog and introduced the world to the original version of Kermit the Frog. This would be the start of a career for Henson that led to The Muppet Show two decades later in 1976. This would be followed by The Muppets moving to the big screen as well. Although Jim Henson is no longer here, the legacy of the characters he created continue on today. They have made many more movies, shows, and YouTube videos.

At this time, it is unknown who will play Jim Henson in this film. What is known is that Disney is partnering with The Jim Henson Company on this movie. The main focus of this movie will be how Jim Henson overcame multiple challenges to bring the Muppets to mainstream television. Lisa Henson, Jim Henson’s daughter, will be a producer for Muppet Man. Michael Mitnick is set to write the screenplay. It will be based on a script by Aaron and Jorden Kendell that never made it to the big screen.

A release date for this film isn’t known yet. It also known what Muppets will appear in this film, if any. DAPS MAGIC will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
