Disney+ Gets First Nods at Academy Awards as The Walt Disney Company Earns 15 Oscar Nominations

The Walt Disney Company has earned 15 Oscar nominations with Disney+ films earning 8 nominations. Searchlight Pictures’ Nomadland led the pack with 6 of Disney’s 15 nominations.

The nominations for Disney+ were the first Oscar nominations that Disney’s streaming service had received since being launched in 2019. Disney+ launched Disney and Pixar content that received nominations. Disney and Pixar’s Onward and Soul both were nominated for Best Animated Feature. Soul was also nominated for Best Original Score and Best Sound. Disney’s Mulan received nominations for Best Costume Design and also Best Visual Effects. Disney’s The One and Only Ivan was nominated for Best Visual Effects as well. Finally, Disney and Pixar’s Burrow received a nomination for Best Animated Short Film.

Searchlight Pictures’ Nomadland‘s six nominations included Best Motion Picture, Actress in a Leading Role, Directing, Adapted Screenplay, along with Editing and Cinematography. With the added nominations from Nomadland, Searchlight Pictures now has earned 19 Best Picture Oscar Nominations and a total of 164 Academy Award nominations.

Hulu’s original film The United States vs. Billie Holiday also received a nomination for Best Actress for Andra Day’s performance in the film. Hulu is also where Searchlight Pictures Nomadland streams exclusively.

The 93rd Academy Awards will take place on Sunday April 25, 2021 at 5:00 PM on ABC.
