In any other year, this weekend would have been runDisney’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. However, this isn’t any other year. As the pandemic continues to impact events, the Walt Disney World Marathon has gone virtual! This year, there are participants from all fifty states running from home. The weekend includes seven races and three challenges. They will be again be celebrating the weekend with Disney characters and earning those medals throughout the course of the weekend. Today, in a video, the 2021 Virtual Walt Disney World Marathon was officially kicked off.
In the video, Vice President of runDisney, Faron Kelley, is joined by Mickey Mouse to start the weekend. Kelley shares a message about the differences of this weekend, the excitement of it, and how runDisney is with each runner every step of the way. runDisney wants to make everything as magically as possible. The video then pivots to talk about runDisney’s partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. After thanking some sponsors, the 2021 Virtual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is kicked off with a countdown and confetti. All of this can be seen in the video below that was released by runDisney.
Since 1994, runDisney has been giving runners a chance to combine two loves: the love of running with the love of Disney. The first marathon, the Walt Disney World Marathon was held that same year. Since then, runDisney has had hundreds of races offering runnings some magical marathons, half-marathons, 10k, 5k, and other experiences and challenges.
