Today Bret Iwan, the voice of Mickey Mouse, is celebrating the 11th anniversary of standing behind the mic and voicing Mickey Mouse. Iwan shared a touching post on his Instagram this morning commemorating the date.
Bret Iwan shared with DAPS MAGIC that while he did audition before this date, he considers this the anniversary date as it was the first day he actually recorded the role of Mickey Mouse behind the mic. Prior to this role, he worked as an illustrator for Hallmark.
As a child, Bret Iwan was a devoted Disney fan. He loved to practice drawing Mickey to hone his artistic skills. He and his brother would re-enact Fantasmic! as their imaginations would come to life at home and Bret would mimic the line “some imagination, huh!?” Eventually, this would turn into an opportunity when Disney began to look for someone to work with Wayne Allwine, then the voice of Mickey. Iwan auditioned over the phone, and then later in person. Unfortunately, Allwine passed and Iwan found himself returning to California to record the role.
Now, 11 years later Iwan continues to bring the voice of Mickey Mouse to life. Perhaps most magical of all, his voice can now be heard in Fantasmic! at Disneyland bringing his story full circle.
DAPS MAGIC would like to wish Bret Iwan a very happy anniversary. It is amazing what a little imagination, Disney magic, and talent can do! We wish you all the best in the coming years!
