Earlier this month, the Disney+ streaming service launched in Europe to eager fans. While it launched in the United States on November 12, it was set to launch at different times around the world. After it’s much-awaited release in Europe, analytics show that “The Mandalorian” is the show that is in high demand among fans.
TV Research company Parrot Analytics collects data from social media, video streaming, photo sharing, blogging and research platforms to produce “demand expression” figures. These figures put a number on the demand from the audience for specific programs. “The Mandalorian” produced 33 million demand expressions across Europe on the day the streaming service debuted, March 24.
The demand was highest in Germany, where there were over 12 million expressions. It was followed by the UK with 7.9 million, Italy with 6.5 million, Spain with 5 million, Switzerland with 723,629, Austria with 535,771, and Ireland with 396,099. Disney does not reveal the individual performance of programs on the Disney+ streaming service, so this is the gauge for how the shows are doing in the market.
Around the world, Disney+ has seen an increase in subscribers since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, as people are encouraged to stay home. As fans stay home due to health concerns, we see that more people are enjoying the comfort of entertainment from Disney!
