Cinderella Castle is one of the most photographed icons around the globe. Today it was announced that this magical castle will be getting an updated look. The announcement came via the Disney Parks Blog from Jason Kirk, vice president, Magic Kingdom Park. Kirk shared that Cinderella Castle will soon be getting a new magical look.
This updated look for Cinderella Castle comes just after the animated Cinderella celebrated its 70th anniversary. In it, Cinderella demonstrates the power of courage and kindness as she pursues true love. For nearly 50 years, Cinderella Castle has represented and inspired that story and message as guests have visited the Magic Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort.
A look at the concept art that was released today shows just how the castle will be changing. Disneyland fans will recognize the similarity to the new look that Sleeping Beauty Castle recently received. There will be plenty of gold included in the new look that will be appropriate as the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World is a year away.
The updated look for Cinderella Castle ahead of the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort isn’t without precedent. Ahead of the Disneyland Resort’s 50th anniversary, Sleeping Beauty Castle was also giving a new look. The change for Sleeping Beauty Castle was a bit more dramatic. The new look for Cinderella Castle is much more similar to the one that Sleeping Beauty Castle recently received at Disneyland. It also is similar to the colors found at the Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Paris. The colors are regal and royal and also help with the forced perspective of the castle, making it look even bigger and more magical!
Work will begin on Cinderella Castle in the coming weeks and continue throughout the summer. The entertainment that is shown on and around the castle will continue while the work is done. This includes both Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire and Happily Ever After.
What do you think of the new look for Cinderella Castle? Are you excited to see it?
