Emilio Estevez Returning to The Mighty Ducks for Disney+ Reboot

Emilio Estevez will be returning to the role of coach Gordon Bombay for a reboot of The Mighty Ducks. He will also be an executive producer for what will be a series on Disney+.

“Once a Duck, always a Duck! And after 25 years, I am delighted to lace up my skates, put on Coach Bombay’s jacket and return to play the iconic character for this new chapter in The Mighty Ducks franchise,” Estevez shared. “Likewise, I am thrilled to return to my old stomping grounds with my friends at Disney and Steve Brill, the original creator of the franchise, to join them on their exciting new platform, Disney+.”

Along with reprising the role of coach Bombay, Estevez will be again working with Steve Brill who created the franchise. The comedy series will be starring Lauren Graham (Gilmore Girls) and Brady Noon (Good Boys). They will be joined by Julie Cerda (Passengers) along with Swayam Bhatia (Succession), Target Burns (The Right Stuff), Bella Higginbotham (Troop Zero), Luke Islam (America’s Got Talent), Kiefer O’Reilly (Legends of Tomorrow), Maxwell Simmons (Bizaardvark), and also Do’Jon Watts (Black Panther).

The Disney+ series will be set in modern day Minnesota, where the Might Ducks are now a powerhouse youth hockey team. After the 12 year-old Even (Noon) is cut from the team, he and his mom Alex (Graham) decide to make their own team of misfits and challenge the cutthroat nature of the ultra-competitive youth sports teams. With the help of coach Gordon Bombay (Estevez), the magic of the game comes alive.

The show is set to go into production later this month in Vancouver and come to Disney+ later this year.
