The Force is strong with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, at least when it comes to job creation. Since construction on the new land began in 2016 at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, Disney revealed that nearly 15,500 jobs have been created. This includes both permanent and temporary positions.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened at the Disneyland Resort in May and then at Walt Disney World Resort in August. Each land is 14 acres and represents the largest land expansions ever for the two resorts.
According to Disney, the building of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at the Disneyland Resort utilized 6,700 temporary construction and artisan jobs. Walt Disney World’s version employed 5,500 temporary workers along with 51 prime contractors. In the parks, Disneyland employed 1,600 new operational jobs with the creation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. In Florida, approximately 1,700 jobs were created for the land.
Data reveals that Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is expected to generate around $14 billion over the next 40 years in California. It will also generate around $14 million in municipal and state taxes. According to the Woods Center for Economic Analysis and Forecasting at California State University Fullerton (CSUF), the Disneyland Resort, its employees, visitors, and third party businesses generated nearly $150 million in state and local tax revenue in the 2019 fiscal year up through September.
The Disneyland Resort employs 31,000 cast members. In 2018, the Disneyland Resort helped create 78,000 jobs in Southern California. 73% of them were in Orange County. The Disneyland Resort is the largest employer in Orange County.
