5 Things You Do Not Want to Miss at Star Wars_ Galaxy's Edge

5 Things You Do Not Want to Miss at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

For years, Star Wars fans have dreamed of entering the world created by George Lucas and visit the places that Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca traveled to while trying to save the galaxy. Now, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge allows guests to visit a galaxy far, far away in person. With the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and soon Disney’s Hollywood Studios, guests will be able to experience Star Wars like never before. There are a few things that absolutely should NOT be missed while making this trek to Batuu and Black Spire Outpost. Here are my top five things you should not miss while there.

  1. Blue Milk (or green if you choose).
Let’s be honest, we have been waiting for this since the first time we saw Star Wars: A New Hope. Luke drinks it and immediately we all wondered what it would be like to taste blue milk. This is something that must be experienced first hand and at least once. For those who wanted to try the green milk from Star Wars: The Last Jedi, that’s on hand as well! I’m not sure what I was expecting blue milk to taste like but, it was decent. What I do know though is I can now say that I have experienced Star Wars milk and have it checked off my Star Wars dream list!
  2. Resistance Encampment
It wouldn’t be a trip into the world of Star Wars without checking out the Resistance. At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, not only can you find some of your favorite heroes, but you can also see some of your favorite fighters. Visit the Resistance camp and see an X-Wing and an A-Wing. Both are ready to go and fight the First Order at any given moment. It should be noted, the First Order recently landed at Black Spire Outpost and their presence can be seen on the other side of town. The whole land is a photographer’s dream, but fans of the Resistance (or Rebellion) will love getting to walk around the camp and see their imagination come to life! If you prefer, check out the First Order’s presence on the other end of Black Spire Outpost. There is something for everyone!
  3. Batuu Builders (Lightsabers or Droids)
There are quite a few different experiences to be had while visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge that allow you to build things. First off, for $199 (plus tax) you can build your very own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop. This isn’t like building a lightsaber in Tomorrowland though. These are really solid lightsabers that react to hitting things, light up with sounds straight from the original movie, and add some backstory to your lightsaber and Star Wars journey. The process of building is immersive and part of the bigger story of Batuu as well. The lightsaber comes with a pretty cool case as well. It should be noted that you DO need reservations for this experience. What you may not need reservations for (depending on demand) though is building your own doid. That’s just around the corner at the Droid Depot. There, you can build your own droid for $99.99 (plus tax). You can choose to build a BB-series or an R-series droid. Both of these experiences allow for a builder and one guest to enter the building area. They are both memorable and allow guests to walk away with not just a really cool souvenir from the new land, but also an incredible memory!
  4. Galactic Dining!
When thinking of dining at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge the first place that comes to mind is obviously Oga’s Cantina. There you can drink some drinks straight out of Star Wars and more importantly, be entertained by DJ Rex! Charming as ever, DJ Rex brings a bit of classic Star Tours to modern-day Galaxy’s Edge. The cantina isn’t the only place though to dine. Over at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo there are quite a few options to try, my favorite so far is the Fried Endorian Tip Yip, or what we would consider fried chicken. I did try some of the other entrees there as well but this was my favorite. Ronto Roasters also provides a quick way to get sustenance as well and is just around the corner from Docking Bay 7.
  5. Millennium Falcon
Star Wars: Galaxy's EdgeThe most important thing that should be done is visit and then fly the Millennium Falcon aboard the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction. Seeing the Millennium Falcon in the middle of Black Spire Outpost is a bit of an emotional experience for Star Wars fans (and probably for those who aren’t as well). It really is that glorious ship come to life and docked in the middle of the outpost! First, take pictures in front of it and on the side of it of course. There is a GREAT place near the entrance of Docking Bay 7 to take photos with the Millennium Falcon. Pretty much any angle around it will be good though. Then, enter the queue for the attraction and get some more incredible views of the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. This is a queue that is a pleasure to wait in. It is full of details and Easter Eggs from the movies. Finally, you work your way through the hangar and maintenance bays and get to be recruited by Hondo Ohnaka, who Chewie has let borrow the Millennium Falcon, for a job. This is followed by what we all have been waiting for… the moment you board the Millennium Falcon! She is everything you’d hope she would be. The process of boarding and then flying it feels like you have walked right into a Star Wars movie (as if you didn’t already feel that way in the land). Everything is familiar and it really is insane to be aboard the Millennium Falcon. Then getting to fly her, well that’s another wonderful adventure all in itself! You do NOT want to miss this and it is worth the wait.

There are so many things to do and experience in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Make sure and utilize the Play Disney Parks app to get an even richer experience while there. Also, make sure to just enjoy the fact that you are in the world of Star Wars! While there is so much do to and see, it is also incredible to just stop and absorb where you are at. So often we are moving so fast to experience the next best thing, we forget that half of the experience is right where we are! Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is just that, an incredible experience! I can’t wait to return again and again to build on this new experience that Disney has created!
