The Walt Disney Company continues to dominate at the box office and over the weekend surpassed one of its own records. The record, set in 2016 was $7.61 at the global box office. As of this weekend, Disney surpassed $7.67 at the global box office. This wasn’t the only record Disney beat this weekend though. Oversees the company reached $5.06 billion making it the first studio to pass $5 billion in the overseas box office.
These new records should come as no surprise for the company that currently has released five of the top six movies of the year. This includes Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Toy Story 4. While three of these movies have already passed the billion-dollar mark, the other two are expected to reach that mark soon. Those two are The Lion King and Toy Story 4.
While Disney has been dominating at the box office this year, it hasn’t been a perfect year for the company. Earlier this year Disney released Dumbo which garnered more tepid results. Now owners of Fox, the company also released Dark Phoenix which didn’t perform as well as hoped either.
With Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker being released later this year, expect Disney to continue to make more records at the box office.
