On the first day of winter, Disneynature released the first poster for its upcoming feature Penguins! The eighth theatrical release for Disneynature, Penguins is a coming of age story about an Adelie penguin named Steve. Steve joins millions of other fellow male penguins in the frigid Antartic spring on a quest to build a suitable nest, find a life partner, and then start a family. Of course, nothing comes easy in the Antartic. Steve finds himself sharing waters with killer whales and leopard seals who would love to end his story.
Penguins comes from the filmmaking team behind Bears and Chimpanzee. It continues the legacy started by Walt Disney with the 13 True Life Adventure films that were created between 1948 and 1960. That legacy has been continuing on with Disneynature’s films that have included Earth, Oceans, African Cats, Chimpanzee, Bears, Monkey Kingdom, and Born in China. These have been seven of top eight highest grossing feature-length nature films to date. Chimpanzee holds the record opening weekend for the genre.
Disneynature’s Penguins will be arriving in theaters in time for Earth Day 2019 on April 17, 2019.
