Lucasfilm and Han Solo Directors Part Ways

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, directors of the Han Solo stand alone movie, have been removed from the film by Kathleen Kennedy. According to sources to the Hollywood Reporter, the two directors clashed with writer Lawrence Kashdan. Kasdan, who also wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, wrote the script for this movie with his son Jon Kasdan. The movie is currently set to be released in 2018.

Kasdan is known for wanting to stick to what is written in the script whereas Lord and Miller are known for there more relaxed comedic style. The source told the Hollywood Reporter that,  “People need to understand that Han Solo is not a comedic personality. He’s sarcastic and selfish.” The source says that this friction was felt almost right from the start when filming began in February.

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project. We normally aren’t fans of the phrase ‘creative differences’ but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew,” Lord and Miller said in a statement released Tuesday.

Apparently Lucasfilm and Disney are already lining up a replacement for the directors. Currently Ron Howard and Joe Johnston are names swirling around as potential directors for this film. This parting of ways really comes as no surprise after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story had Tony Gilroy to help out after sidelining Gareth Edwards near the end of the process. This change in this movie shows the willingness by Lucasfilm to assert itself to protect the Star Wars brand.

What do you think of this change of event for the Han Solo movie?
