‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Reels in $528 Million Globally Over Opening Weekend

Early Monday morning, reports poured in from the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Over the weekend, theater goers rushed to see the latest film installment in the franchise. As stated by The Hollywood Reporter, Force Awakens ticket sales broke records.

Currently, J.J. Abram’s latest project has reeled in $528M-plus globally. With the film now having the biggest box-office opening weekend in the galaxy, it was estimated that North American sales for the weekend alone were $247 million. The previous record holder was that of Jurassic World coming in at $208.8 million.

Numbers are still pouring in across the world and many more records are expected to break. To add, the film has yet to open in China, which is said to be the “world’s second biggest film market,” according to CNN Money. Force Awakens will makes its debut in China on January 9. We can expect to see numbers increasing even higher in the new year.

Reports state that 58% of the audience were male and that 63% of the audience had been over the age of 25. The popular movie rating site, Rotten Tomatoes, gives Star Wars: The Force Awakens a rating of 95%.
