DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs
This morning, Disneyland Resort President George A. Kalogridis announced the Disneyland Resort Ambassador Team for 2013-2014. The two cast members chosen for this team were Megan Navarette and Sachiko White, both of the Entertainment department at the Disneyland Resort.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle. The ceremony was a passing of the torch from most recent the most recent Disneyland Resort Ambassador Team, Jolie Hales & René Torrico, to the current team. It included recognition of many previous Disneyland Resort Ambassadors dating back to the second year of the program’s existence. The “fab five” also joined the ceremony along with a singer who sang a song about the happiest place on earth before the candidates were brought forward. The finalists were then brought forward and introduced. Each was asked to share their favorite Disney memory before the announcement was made.
The ceremony culminated with President George A. Kalogridis reading the names of the new Disneyland Resort Ambassador Team. Megan Navarette was announced first. She was very emotional the moment her name was read. Sachiko White’s name was the second read. Following the announcement, confetti was shot into the air and after a few pictures, the 2013-2014 Disneyland Resort Ambassador Team were ushered into Walt Disney’s firetruck for a cavalcade down Main Street, USA.
The Disneyland Resort Ambassador program began in 1965 when Walt Disney was preparing for the 10th anniversary of Disneyland. They help represent the Disneyland Resort and its 23,000 cast member as spokeswomen, hosts for dignitaries and VIPs, hospital visits with Disney characters, cast recognition events, and other special events and promotions. The two new Ambassadors were chosen from a field of nearly 80 applicants and will be “taking the magic of the Resort into the community by acting as emissaries of goodwill.”
Megan Navarette began her Disney career three years ago at the Disneyland Resort. Among her other roles at the Resort, she has performed in parades and most recently has served as a program facilitator for the Resort’s Youth Education Series where she works with local students who come to the Disneyland Resort. She has a bachelors of communications from San Diego State University. She also is a team leader in Orange County for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
Sachiko White began her Disneyland Resort career in entertainment as well. She performed for special events and also scripted shows. At The Second City Los Angeles, she received improv-comedy training. She also graduated from Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh with an acting degree. She works to fundrais for the Hollywood Arts to provide visual and performing arts classes to at-risk and homeless youth.
