Microsoft and Asobo Studio have teamed up with Kinect Rush: A Disney•Pixar Adventure. When I first heard about this title I had just played Kinect: Disneyland Adventures and couldn’t wait. The object of the game is for families and fans of all ages to experience the worlds of five beloved Disney•Pixar films, teaming up with Pixar characters to overcome puzzling obstacles and find hidden secrets. The five worlds are the worlds of: Toy Story, Ratatouille, Up, Cars, and The Incredibles.
The game starts out with scanning the player. Unlike Kinect: Disneyland Adventure which lets you create a generic avatar, Kinect Rush scans the player and creates an avatar that looks like it came straight out of a Pixar movie (make sure you are in a well lit room, the light was too bright were I played and I came out blond instead of red). Once created, the game also shows the player how they will look as a robot, a superhero, a car, a rat and a Wilderness Explorer.
After creating an avatar the player is then transported to Pixar Park. This serves as the main hub for the game. From here you can access the various chapters of the previously mentioned Pixar worlds. Each world has multiple chapters in which players can help characters from each movie. For example, in the Up chapters players help Russell and Dug save Kevin’s babies.
Overall, the game is enjoyable. Families with children 7-12 will really enjoy this game. The games are fairly easy to grasp and there are tutorial images throughout the game to assist players. The graphics are well done and are visually pleasing. My only complaint about the game is the lack of interaction with the world outside of each movie area. In Kinect: Disneyland Adventure, the world outside each mini game was interactive and I feel that Kinect Rush didn’t spend much time developing Pixar Park which could have been really fun.
I would definitely recommend this game for Pixar fans, families and fans of mini games. Had this game come out prior to Kinect: Disneyland Adventures, I probably would have enjoyed it more. That being said, I’d give the game a 3.75/5.
Have a Magical Day!
