John Oliver Joins Cast of Disney’s The Lion King Remake 

Work continues on the production of Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of The Lion King. Jon Favreau is directing this new version of the film. Details have slowly been trickling out about the cast for this film. The most recent update is that John Oliver is joining the cast. He will be voicing Zazu, King Mufasa’s majordomo. In the original animated feature, this role was voiced by Rowan Atkinson. 

John Oliver currently is the host of Last Week Tonight. He also appeared on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. Through the years he has lent his voice to The Smurfs, Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers

The cast for The Lion King hasn’t been completely released. This may change at the 2017 D23 Expo. Currently it is known that James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa. Donald Glover will portray Simba. Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan will bring Timon and Pumbaa to life. 

The Lion King is set to roar into theaters on July 19, 2019.
