>> Welcome to Daps Magic Disney and
0:13
Positive Stuff. I'm Mr. Daps and I am so
0:15
excited for this week's episode [music]
0:18
of Daps Magic Disney and Positive Stuff.
0:20
Kids Rule Summer is now started at the
0:22
Disneyland [music] Resort and there is a
0:24
ton to do for kids that are young and
0:27
kids that are young at heart. But before
0:29
we get into all of that, [music] I'd
0:30
like to take a moment just to remind
0:32
you, if you haven't done it yet, please
0:34
subscribe. [music] If you'd like to join
0:35
the conversation, let me know in the
0:37
comments what you think, what you like
0:39
more of, whatever you're thinking. I'd
0:41
love to hear from you. Also, leave us a
0:43
rating wherever you happen to be
0:45
listening [music] or watching to this
0:46
podcast so other people can know what
0:48
you think of it and hopefully discover
0:50
this community of Disney and Positive
0:52
[music] Stuff as well. And if you want
0:54
more community, head on over to Daps
0:56
Magic HQ, [music] which is at
0:57
dapsHQ.com,
0:59
where we have more behind-the-scenes
1:01
conversations, looks at what we're
1:03
doing, and uh actually we make [music]
1:05
decisions about where Daps Magic is
1:06
going over there as well.
1:08
And we have a fun aftershow after Geek's
1:10
[music] Corner that's exclusive. You
1:11
won't want to miss it. But, it is time
1:13
to talk about Kids [music] Rule Summer.
1:16
This last week we had the opportunity of
1:18
going to the Disneyland Resort for the
1:20
kickoff event for Kids Rule Summer
1:21
[music]
1:22
and there was a lot to cover. There was
1:25
Star Wars, there was Bluey, there was
1:27
[music] adventures, there's even
1:29
discounts this summer for people there
1:32
is so much ground to cover
1:33
>> [music]
1:33
>> and rather than just regurgitate all of
1:36
this for you, I thought instead I'd
1:37
share with [music] you what it was like
1:39
going through the day and the
1:40
conversations I had. So, what we are
1:43
going to do is uh take a look at Kids
1:45
Rule [music] Summer as I experienced it
1:48
during that media event. So, we're going
1:50
to start things off with an interview
1:52
with my friend AJ [music] who shared a
1:54
lot about what is going on at Star Wars
1:56
Galaxy's
1:57
whether it's with merchandise, whether
1:59
it's with food. This is a very fun
2:01
interview with a very fun [music] guy.
2:04
Take a listen or a watch
2:06
of me and my friend AJ about Star Wars
2:09
Galaxy's Edge this summer.
2:14
Hi, I'm Mr. Daps and I'm here at the
2:15
Disneyland Resort for something
2:17
incredibly exciting. We have a new Star
2:19
Wars movie coming out this week, The
2:21
Mandalorian and Grogu, and with that
2:24
means new food, new merchandise, new
2:26
experiences at the Disneyland Resort.
2:28
And for some of these things and some
2:30
other cool Star Wars stuff, I've got my
2:31
friend AJ here
2:33
>> Hello.
2:33
>> to share about all of the fun things to
2:35
find at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge. So,
2:37
let's dig right into it the best way
2:39
ever, with the food. What do we got, AJ?
2:42
>> You know, we have some wonderful things
2:43
that are coming to Docking Bay 7, um
2:45
starting this Friday the 22nd. We've got
2:47
our Surabat Valley Greens Salad here.
2:50
It's a wonderful kale and romaine mix
2:51
with a light cilantro vinaigrette,
2:53
little peppers, some olives, and some
2:56
herb-marinated chicken on top of that to
2:58
complete that guy.
2:59
>> I like that.
3:00
>> Nice and light, crisp, a little bit
3:01
acidic, very refreshing on a hot Batuuan
3:03
day.
3:04
>> And I see we have a couple of uh chicken
3:07
>> You know, who doesn't love Tip-Yip and
3:09
cheesy and cheesy noodles?
3:10
>> the official name?
3:11
>> Yeah, Tip-Yip and cheesy noodles are the
3:13
way to go. So, we have our youngling
3:14
version right here with the cheesy udon
3:16
noodles and some fried Tip-Yip. And for
3:19
the adults, we kick it up a little bit,
3:20
we add a little pancetta, some
3:21
breadcrumbs, and then a kind of
3:24
serve-yourself
3:25
ghost pepper sauce in a little vial that
3:28
you can put as as many or as few drops
3:31
as you want.
3:32
>> Totally fair.
3:32
>> I'm more on the few side cuz it does
3:35
it's not Disney spicy, let's say. It's
3:37
Batuuan spicy. Yes, sir. Yes, sir.
3:39
>> cool. I do see before we go too far,
3:40
we've got a droid bucket that I'm sure
3:42
is going to be ridiculously popular.
3:44
>> Who doesn't love the BD-X droid? Now,
3:46
this guy is going to be your popcorn
3:48
bucket. He opens up right here in front
3:50
so you can easily access your popcorn.
3:53
He is fully posable,
3:55
so you can move his arms and legs and
3:57
have him stand up as tall as he wants to
3:59
be or kind of go into sleep mode. He's
4:02
super cute, and then of course his eyes
4:04
will light up and do all kinds of
4:06
different patterns of solid or blinking.
4:10
He's uh
4:11
>> You could also use it to put there some
4:12
action figures we're about to see. I'm
4:14
pretty sure they fit in there, too.
4:15
>> They absolutely would, yeah.
4:17
All right, so we have a bounty bun.
4:19
>> This looks yummy.
4:20
>> Bounty bun. Now, you you might see this
4:22
in the upcoming film, The Mandalorian
4:24
and Grogu.
4:25
>> That might be inspired by what you'll
4:27
see on screen.
4:28
>> this online.
4:29
>> Mhm. Mhm.
4:29
>> Very cool.
4:30
>> Yeah, so you have your you know, your
4:31
sautéed blue onions, your turmeric
4:33
garlic aioli, a little yellow tomato
4:35
chutney on the bottom, and in the middle
4:36
is a pork and beef patty that's spiced
4:39
with just this amazing blend of spices
4:41
that gives you a little bit of sweet,
4:43
little bit of hearty,
4:44
>> I can't wait to try this.
4:45
>> cloves, things like that. So, you you
4:47
really you know, on the ciabatta bun,
4:48
it's it's a complete but two in an
4:50
experience, absolutely.
4:51
>> food from a galaxy far, far away. And
4:53
then we can't skip the Grogu cookies.
4:56
>> No, absolutely not. The Grogu cookies
4:58
again, you will see those being eaten by
5:00
the lovely Grogu in the movie.
5:02
>> Um adorable.
5:03
>> Do you like Do you like pineapple? Maybe
5:06
you'll like Dole Whip? Then you're going
5:07
to like these cookies.
5:08
>> Oh, that's awesome. Very cool.
5:10
>> Great vibrant blue color, nice and
5:12
sweet, light, crisp, and refreshing.
5:14
>> Nice. And I'm seeing we have some other
5:15
novelties that are very fun back here.
5:18
Uh Grogu's obviously jumping out at me,
5:19
and then also I love the the protocol
5:22
droid bucket. Like
5:23
>> The protocol droid. The protocol droid,
5:25
you know, the next evolution of of
5:27
buckets.
5:27
>> These keep getting from the heads and
5:29
better.
5:29
>> Yeah, now this one, you know, it is not
5:31
C-3PO. It is a different protocol droid.
5:34
>> obviously.
5:36
>> We'll pull him out to show you. This
5:38
does depress so that he can stand on his
5:41
arms.
5:41
>> Okay.
5:42
>> And it lights up.
5:44
>> Where did that button go?
5:47
>> Oh.
5:48
Oh, very cool. So, he he will blink as
5:50
well.
5:51
>> Nice.
5:52
>> Or just go solid, you know, different
5:53
patterns.
5:54
>> Love it.
5:55
>> Yeah.
5:56
And then he opens up just right here in
5:58
front, if I can do it.
6:01
>> That's a lot of space.
6:01
>> That's a lot of space. It fits quite a
6:03
bit of a Outpost Mix in this guy.
6:05
>> it. We also have a ton of merchandise
6:08
that's coming in at Star Wars Galaxy's
6:11
Edge. I love the shirts. I love the
6:14
hats.
6:15
>> The Aurebesh collection is this new
6:17
collection that we have that's available
6:18
now on Batuu, um um
6:21
featuring some of it myself right here.
6:23
You know, it's a it's kind of this this
6:25
mix of the original Star Wars logo, but
6:28
it's got some Aurebesh undertones. So,
6:30
it's like this really good mix. It
6:31
really kind of makes it unique to Batuu,
6:34
where we where we we honor the original
6:36
logo that's so iconic and so many people
6:38
know. Um but bring it into what we've
6:41
really kind of introduced to people with
6:43
Aurebesh being all over the land, all
6:44
over the movies, and people starting to
6:46
recognize that. So, it's a great mix of
6:48
them.
6:48
>> love that. And I I keep getting my eye
6:50
dragged over here. There's so many cute
6:53
toys that shouldn't go on my shelf, but
6:56
probably we'll see.
6:58
>> Absolutely. There's there's some great I
6:59
mean, you know, The Mandalorian is is
7:01
the the hot the hot new toy. This one um
7:04
is
7:05
supposed to be motion, but I believe the
7:07
lighting has thrown us off a little bit.
7:08
But he he does talk. You turn him on, he
7:10
says, "This is the way." We've got
7:11
little figurines if people just want
7:13
little toys to play with. We've got this
7:15
guy.
7:20
He's got I I can. I can.
7:25
>> That's awesome.
7:26
>> He blinks, he talks. You'll see many of
7:28
his cousins featured in the movie as
7:30
well getting into shenanigans.
7:31
>> That's going to go so fast.
7:32
>> It's going to be great. It's going to be
7:34
great. And then of course, who doesn't
7:35
love collecting pins?
7:36
You know, kids do rule summer and kids
7:38
love pin trading, so why not I some
7:40
Mandalorian and Grogu pins?
7:41
>> I do love the bag, also.
7:43
>> The bag is like that is an awesome bag.
7:44
>> And you know, it's it's like when you
7:46
travel anywhere, you want something to
7:47
bring back from that place that says, "I
7:49
went there and I want everybody to know
7:51
that I went there." Well, when you go to
7:52
Batuu, you want to be able to tell
7:54
everybody, "Hey, I went to Batuu."
7:55
>> And that's a great size.
7:57
>> Yes.
7:57
>> Cuz sometimes they're too big for me and
7:58
I'm like, that's enough that I can carry
8:00
what I need to carry, but not everything
8:01
else that would be super weighted down
8:03
in the process.
8:04
>> Exactly.
8:04
>> And it's no problem on the plane, but
8:06
there is a ton of exciting things
8:08
happening in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. I
8:10
hear more behind me, I think, but you
8:12
won't want to miss any of it this
8:13
summer. And it's Kids Rule Summer, which
8:15
is also awesome because there's so many
8:18
fun things to do for the whole family
8:19
around the Disneyland Resort. So, make
8:21
sure to stop by Daps Magic.com so you
8:23
don't miss any of our coverage.
8:30
Now, snacking your way through Batuu is
8:32
one thing,
8:33
but actually stepping into the cockpit
8:35
of the fastest hunk of junk in the
8:37
galaxy to live out those movie moments,
8:40
well, that's another.
8:42
To find out how this land is evolving
8:44
with the film, I caught up with Asa and
8:46
Michael to talk about a major update
8:49
that has arrived to a fan-favorite
8:51
attraction in land at the Disneyland
8:54
Resort. Enjoy this conversation. I know
8:56
I did.
8:58
Hi, Mr. Daps, and I'm here at the
8:59
Disneyland Resort where it is an
9:01
exciting time to be a Star Wars fan as
9:04
there are new offerings, more offerings
9:07
than I think ever before. And I'm here
9:09
with Asa and Michael who are going to
9:11
tell us all about the new exciting
9:13
things that can be found in Star Wars:
9:15
Galaxy's Edge. Who wants to go first?
9:16
Asa, how about you?
9:17
>> We are so excited to be launching a
9:19
brand new mission from Millennium
9:21
Falcon: Smugglers Run
9:22
where you and five of your closest
9:24
friends are going to get to go on an
9:25
incredible bounty hunting adventure
9:27
alongside the Mandalorian and Grogu. And
9:30
what's really cool about this new
9:31
mission is that we're not just going to
9:33
one location, but depending on what our
9:35
flight engineers decide, we get to
9:38
either go to Bespin and or or Coruscant.
9:41
>> I love that. And so this new adventure
9:44
kind of comes as The Mandalorian Grogu
9:46
is coming out on Friday technically, I
9:49
guess.
9:50
As you come up with these ideas of like,
9:52
"Hey, we could do this with the
9:53
Millennium Falcon." What was that
9:55
process like?
9:56
>> Yeah, well, we started with uh Dave
9:58
Filoni and Jon Favreau, right? We really
10:00
wanted to make sure that the experience
10:02
that our guests would have in the park
10:03
felt connected to the film that they
10:05
were creating. So we spent a lot of time
10:07
talking about story and the structure
10:10
and what were some of the themes of the
10:12
film that we want to see reflected but
10:14
in the attraction experience for our
10:15
guests.
10:15
>> Cool. And and the attraction now there's
10:17
going to be more, I don't know,
10:19
playability, I guess you could say for
10:21
all of the different people on the crew.
10:24
Could you talk a little bit about how
10:25
you determined, "Hey, we're going to
10:28
we're going to have the engineer do the
10:29
other other stuff?"
10:30
>> Yeah, so we took this opportunity to
10:32
enhance all three of the roles. So for
10:34
our pilots, we got even more responsive
10:36
flight controls. However, we've also
10:38
guaranteed that no matter how you fly,
10:40
you're always going to get a cinematic
10:41
experience.
10:43
>> For our gunners, we've upgraded uh their
10:45
pews so they're even more responsive.
10:47
You get a lot more feedback. It's even
10:48
more satisfying to blow up TIE fighters.
10:50
And then for our flight engineers,
10:52
there's a ton to do. So not only do you
10:54
get to repair the ship, you also get to
10:55
tractor in some cargo for Hondo if you
10:57
want to.
10:58
You have the opportunity to call Grogu
11:00
on your little video screen. And then
11:02
critically, you have that opportunity to
11:04
decide which of those three planets
11:06
you're going to go visit.
11:07
>> That is very cool. I can't wait to
11:08
experience this and probably multiple
11:11
times cuz
11:12
you never know what you're going to
11:13
experience on that. Like even currently,
11:15
we don't know what we're going to
11:16
experience. That's what's so fun about
11:18
it. So Michael, we've also seen the
11:20
expansion of the timeline at Star Wars:
11:22
Galaxy's Edge, which I've been having a
11:23
blast with.
11:24
>> Glad to hear.
11:25
>> Could you talk a little bit about how
11:26
that came to be and and
11:29
why?
11:29
>> Yeah, Yeah, I mean, you know, I also
11:31
kind of keyed into a little bit by
11:32
saying several more than 18 months ago
11:35
we started looking at the attraction
11:36
changeover. And with that big amount of
11:38
a changeover to the land, that really
11:40
made us a give us a chance to think
11:41
about do we adjust the timeline
11:43
completely. We had done some minor
11:45
adjustments bringing the Mandalorian in
11:47
a few years ago, as you know. And then
11:49
of course last year we brought Luke
11:50
Skywalker in and that was obviously met
11:52
with a lot of excitement. So we thought
11:54
well maybe this is the chance to sort of
11:55
look at the deeper Luke Skywalker story
11:58
and bring in Darth Vader, his dad. And
12:00
his sister, why not? And so that really
12:02
allowed us to kind of think about we
12:03
have the Millennium Falcon, let's bring
12:04
in Han Solo, let's bring in Leia Organa,
12:06
let's bring in Darth Vader. Let's find a
12:07
way to make these stories make sense in
12:09
our world of Batuu, but still have Rey
12:12
hanging out by the resistance camp,
12:13
still have Mando hanging out in the
12:15
outpost. It's really the best of all
12:17
worlds for Star Wars fans. If you love
12:19
Star Wars like we all do, I mean what
12:21
aren't you going to love about seeing
12:22
Han Solo, Darth Vader, Mandalorian, Rey?
12:25
It's it's really a feast for the Star
12:27
Wars fan.
12:28
>> I love it and and it's been so fun to
12:30
see all ages and all different levels of
12:33
Star Wars fans connect cuz you know,
12:35
they may not know some of the deep cuts,
12:36
but they're like oh I know Han Solo.
12:38
Like everybody knows that. Could you
12:40
talk a little bit about the
12:43
the collaborative process or the culture
12:45
that allows awesome things like this to
12:47
happen
12:49
in Star Wars Galaxy's Edge, but with
12:50
what you guys do?
12:51
>> Yeah, I mean, obviously the work that
12:53
hopefully our fans have gotten to
12:55
experience and then very soon with the
12:57
updates to Millennium Falcon Smugglers
12:58
Run
12:59
there are massive massive teams of
13:01
people that work diligently for years to
13:04
make this all happen. But critically,
13:06
it's not just us at Imagineering, all of
13:08
this work happens in lockstep with our
13:10
partners at Lucas Film. So everybody
13:12
from Industrial Light & Magic to
13:14
Skywalker Sound to you know, John
13:17
Williams music team and of course all of
13:19
the great story support that we get. It
13:21
really is an entirely blended and
13:23
integrated team.
13:24
>> I I it and and I'm assuming it becomes
13:28
like probably one of the most fun places
13:29
to work to be completely honest. But I
13:33
Is this something that you foresee that
13:34
like oh we could the sky's the limit
13:36
like with the Millennium Falcon in the
13:38
future potentially more or
13:40
>> Absolutely. I mean we we've always
13:42
thought of both the land and the
13:43
attraction as platforms for
13:44
storytelling. What's so great about the
13:46
Star Wars canon is it continues to grow
13:48
and evolve and the goal is to create a
13:50
place that can similarly evolve and
13:52
change over time.
13:53
>> I love that. So as people come into Star
13:56
Wars Galaxy's Edge and experience
13:57
Millennium Falcon Smugglers Run this
13:59
summer
14:00
what is something maybe for each of you
14:02
that you would like to make sure to kind
14:04
of highlight like take a look at this or
14:06
experience this in a certain way to give
14:08
a little bit of added magic for those
14:10
that are watching this video.
14:11
>> You know well I think one of my favorite
14:13
things are all of the little Easter egg
14:14
moments that our partners at ILM hid in
14:17
the media for the attraction. So whether
14:19
you're on Tatooine or on Endor
14:23
an eagle-eyed fan is going to spot these
14:25
fun little nuggets that I don't want to
14:27
spoil but we spent a lot of time making
14:29
sure that they were there.
14:30
>> Love it.
14:31
>> I mean for me the land has been
14:32
beautiful for years but to stand in the
14:34
middle of the land just take in and hear
14:36
John Williams score play throughout the
14:38
land it puts you in the movie a way
14:40
you've never experienced before. I mean
14:42
it's it's giving me chills thinking
14:43
about it right now and to hear the the
14:45
Vader's theme when he arrives hearing
14:47
that iconic music to me is just the
14:50
icing on a beautiful Star Wars cake that
14:52
I just love completely.
14:54
>> I do too and there is so much to see and
14:56
do and experience at Star Wars Galaxy's
14:58
Edge. You don't want to miss it. Kids
15:00
rule summer is happening as well. So
15:01
there's something for everybody at the
15:03
Disneyland Resort this summer.
15:11
Hearing John Williams' iconic score
15:13
swell as Darth Vader steps into the
15:15
outpost gives me well chills every
15:18
single time. Hearing
15:20
them talk about working with John
15:22
Williams team
15:24
equally magical. Absolutely fantastic
15:27
interview and I love what they're doing
15:29
with the land. But Star Wars isn't the
15:31
only universe that's making a massive
15:33
splash at the Disneyland Resort this
15:35
summer.
15:36
If you have little ones or honestly if
15:38
you're just a big kid at heart like the
15:39
rest of us, you are going to love who
15:42
has taken over Fantasyland Theater and
15:44
Troubadour Tavern. So let's talk to
15:47
Michelle, the Disneyland Ambassador, all
15:49
about a certain favorite blue healer.
15:56
Hi, I'm Mr. Daps and I'm here at the
15:57
Disneyland Resort where it is kids rule
16:00
summer, which is awesome because they
16:02
have Bluey and they have my friend
16:03
Michelle who's going to share with us
16:05
all about Bluey's Best Day Ever. And
16:07
tell us about it.
16:08
>> Yeah, you can come and celebrate Bluey's
16:10
Best Day Ever. There is so much fun to
16:12
do for kids and kids of all ages.
16:14
>> And and
16:14
>> Exactly. Uh big kids like us, of course.
16:17
But Bluey and Bingo are here to
16:19
celebrate and have fun on stage, but
16:21
there's more than that. It is a
16:23
free-flowing experience, but I love
16:26
hanging out in the fairy garden and the
16:27
gnome village where you get to run
16:29
around and let your imagination run
16:31
wild.
16:31
>> I love that. And so this goes out
16:33
throughout most of the day.
16:34
>> Yes.
16:35
>> Kids show up.
16:37
Kids that are older show up.
16:38
>> Yes.
16:39
>> What would you say, like what would be a
16:41
good strategy as I'm showing up for
16:44
Bluey's Best Day Ever, like mindset and
16:46
maybe kind of a path of what you could
16:48
do?
16:48
>> Yeah, I would say show up when you can
16:50
because like I said, it is free-flowing
16:52
so you can see one of the stage shows,
16:54
but if not, you can play around and you
16:56
can also get some great food, which we
16:59
have uh behind us. Yes, some really fun
17:02
and playful food options. One thing I
17:04
really love is the new kids meal for
17:06
$5.99. Who doesn't want their own meal?
17:09
And it's great stuff that like I would
17:11
love to eat that right now. Um but it's
17:13
fun, it's playful. You can enjoy your
17:15
food and drink while you're watching the
17:16
show and just take a bit of time to have
17:19
fun and relax.
17:20
>> And I will say anybody who's been to
17:21
Troubadour Tavern before knows that the
17:23
potatoes are always amazing and
17:27
I don't know why nobody ever thought of
17:29
putting pizza in a potato before.
17:31
>> I know.
17:32
>> But it it needed to happen.
17:33
>> It is so good. I have tried this myself,
17:35
the Bluey Girls Potato.
17:37
Um I hate to say it, but I ate the whole
17:38
thing.
17:39
>> Why do you hate to say it? That's how
17:40
it's supposed to
17:41
>> I should share, but you know, it was so
17:43
good. I just had to eat IT ALL.
17:46
>> [laughter]
17:46
>> I LOVE IT.
17:48
BUT YEAH, SUPER FUN. You can get your
17:50
food items. We've got merchandise, too,
17:52
so you
17:52
can take home a souvenir from your best
17:54
day ever. Who doesn't want to do that?
17:56
Bluey and Disneyland Resort, it's the
17:59
best of both worlds.
18:00
>> And I love that they're not only
18:02
bringing Bluey fans to the Disneyland
18:04
Resort, but if you're like me that
18:06
hadn't really seen many Bluey shorts or
18:08
shows, it introduced me to a whole new
18:11
world of Bluey that's been really fun.
18:13
We were talking about one of the
18:14
episodes that I watched earlier, which
18:17
>> [snorts]
18:17
>> turned my perspective on salads into a
18:19
whole new thing, which was fantastic.
18:22
But if people want to experience this,
18:25
is there a certain time of day that it's
18:26
open throughout the day?
18:28
>> Um usually starting around mid-morning
18:30
would be the best time to kind of um
18:32
show up, but always download the
18:34
Disneyland app because you can look at
18:35
the showtimes, you can see when it's
18:37
open and when is the best time to come
18:39
and experience Bluey's Best Day Ever.
18:41
>> And that's a very good tip because also
18:43
in the Disneyland app is all of the
18:44
other fun activities you can do during
18:46
Kids Rule Summer at the Disneyland
18:48
Resort, which you aren't going to want
18:49
to miss and which we also will have a
18:51
lot of information up on Daps Magic.com,
18:54
on our YouTube channel, and also check
18:56
out the Disney Parks blogs.
19:00
>> [music]
19:04
>> Between the dynamic stage shows and
19:06
eating my weight in pizza-stuffed
19:08
potatoes, I'd say Bluey has the right
19:11
idea about Bluey's Best day ever and you
19:13
definitely need to check it out.
19:16
Now, as incredible as all of these new
19:17
experiences are, the absolute best part
19:20
of Kids Rule Summer might actually be
19:22
how accessible Disney is making it for
19:25
families to come out and experience the
19:28
magic together. I know for me, some of
19:31
my favorite Disney memories come from
19:33
when I was with my family as a young boy
19:35
coming to Disneyland from out of town
19:37
and experiencing the magic in a way that
19:39
only a kid can and it's something that I
19:42
hold really near and dear to my heart.
19:44
So, Disney is doing multiple things this
19:47
year to make it accessible for families,
19:50
whether it's attractions, whether it's
19:51
deals, whether it's activities happening
19:54
throughout the resort. So, I sat down
19:57
with my friend Ali who used to be a
19:58
Disneyland Ambassador actually and she
20:01
shared some of the logistics and hidden
20:03
perks that are available this summer as
20:05
part of Kids Rule Summer.
20:10
>> Hi Mr. Daps, and I'm here at the
20:11
Disneyland Resort for Kids Rule Summer
20:13
and I'm here with my friend Ali who's
20:15
going to share with us about some of the
20:17
exciting offerings cuz there's a million
20:19
of them and we're not writing a book or
20:20
making a movie. We're doing a quick
20:22
interview. But, what do we got to look
20:23
forward to this summer?
20:24
>> I mean, one thing I'm most excited for
20:26
Kids Rule Summer, something that I've
20:27
told several of my family friends about
20:28
is our kids summer ticket offer which is
20:31
$50 for It is for a one-day park hopper
20:34
ticket.
20:35
That this is the summer to come right
20:37
now. Plan your trip. Um adults also have
20:39
great value. So, a family of four can
20:41
actually get two adults, two children
20:43
into the theme park on select days this
20:44
summer for under $400.
20:47
>> That's great.
20:47
>> You got to just plan your trip. Visit
20:49
disneyland.com/offers
20:50
to pick the correct dates to make it the
20:52
best value for your family and to be
20:54
able to plan a wonderful trip this
20:56
summer.
20:57
>> And I'm going to say it again,
20:58
disneyland.com/offers
21:00
is a great place to look
21:02
all around the year because there's
21:03
always a deal to be found there and I've
21:05
sent people there throughout the year
21:07
and I always discover new things when
21:08
I'm there, too. So, check it out
21:09
regularly. All right, there's a lot of
21:11
fun things also happening throughout the
21:13
resort during the summer. What can we
21:15
look forward to?
21:15
>> Well, right here in your hand you have a
21:17
great example. Um scavenger hunts
21:19
available at both theme parks. This is
21:21
brand new for the summer, Mickey's Park
21:22
Rangers.
21:23
>> So cute.
21:24
>> Available, it's complimentary from the
21:26
West Side retail stores inside the park.
21:28
So, just stop on by and request this
21:29
booklet. And it's filled with a lot of
21:31
wonderful great activities for kids to
21:33
do while you're visiting the park. If
21:35
you're at Disney California Adventure
21:36
Park, Mabel's Seek and Find has been
21:38
extended
21:39
>> Nice.
21:39
>> over in the Redwood Creek Challenge
21:40
Trail. Yes. So, a lot of just fun
21:43
activities for families to do together.
21:45
>> that. And then you've got all of the
21:46
Bluey stuff happening, you've got all
21:48
the Star Wars stuff happening. There is
21:50
something for everybody to enjoy.
21:51
There's also, it seems like a renewed um
21:54
focus on kids pin trading, also. Is that
21:57
correct?
21:57
>> We continue to evaluate the spaces that
21:59
we have for our pin trading, and this
22:01
would a great time, we thought, for a
22:02
kids rule summer to have a kid-to-cast
22:05
pin trading areas. So, those are going
22:07
to be popping up throughout the resort.
22:08
Check out our disneyland.com website to
22:10
find out exactly where, and adults can
22:12
still pin trade, too. If you have your
22:13
lanyard, you have your handheld pins,
22:15
feel free to trade throughout the
22:16
resort, too.
22:17
>> But I will say, it's way cuter to have a
22:19
kid
22:20
pin trade than to do it yourself. Like,
22:22
I love watching my nieces and nephews
22:24
pin trade because where I'm like, "Oh,
22:25
that's a cool pin." They are like, it's
22:27
Christmas. It's adorable. And really,
22:29
that's what Disneyland's all about is
22:31
the whole family, it's the kids. And
22:33
this summer, that is what they're
22:34
focusing on.
22:43
A $50 ticket offer is an absolute game
22:46
changer for bringing the family down to
22:48
the parks this summer.
22:50
And uh while you're navigating these
22:52
scavenger hunts, you might want to also
22:55
look up because there is a legendary
22:58
Disney attraction that is getting a
23:01
massive domestic upgrade here at
23:03
Disneyland Resort and also Walt Disney
23:06
World Resort where the upgrade has
23:07
already happened. But, I had the
23:09
pleasure and absolute honor of sitting,
23:13
well, standing with Disney
23:16
Imagineer Tom Fitzgerald to discuss this
23:19
breathtaking new flight.
23:25
A $50
23:27
A $50 ticket is an absolute game-changer
23:30
for being able to bring the family down
23:32
to the parks this summer. And I'm
23:33
actually personally very thankful that
23:35
Disney's doing this because it is hard
23:38
sometimes to get to the parks and every
23:40
way they can make it easier, whether
23:42
it's a $50 kids ticket or a $6 lunch for
23:46
kids to buy at Troubadour Tavern, I
23:48
think that is something that is just a
23:50
good move on Disney's part. And while
23:54
you're navigating all of these exciting
23:56
activities, the scavenger hunts, you
23:59
also might want to look up because there
24:02
is a legendary Disney attraction that's
24:04
getting a massive domestic upgrade this
24:07
summer. In fact, in Florida, it's
24:09
already happened.
24:11
But, I had the unique
24:13
privilege and honor to sit down, well,
24:15
really stand with Imagineer Tom
24:18
Fitzgerald to discuss this breathtaking
24:21
new flight that is called Soarin' Across
24:24
America.
24:29
Hi, I'm Mr. Daps, and I'm here at the
24:30
Disneyland Resort ahead of the arrival
24:32
of Soarin' Across America, and I have
24:35
the privilege today to talk to Tom
24:36
Fitzgerald about this attraction. I'm
24:38
super excited to do this.
24:40
>> to talk about it.
24:41
>> Talk about how this came about and and
24:44
some of the fun moments as you were
24:45
creating this.
24:46
>> Sure.
24:48
Well, for Imagineering, we're always
24:49
looking to the future and I it's
24:51
probably I think a decade ago that when
24:52
we finished Soarin' Around the World, we
24:54
said, "Where do we want to go next? What
24:56
would be a great What would be a great
24:57
next step? Then we said, "What about
24:59
going across America?" Um
25:02
and now the 250th celebration of America
25:04
has gave us the window of opportunity
25:06
for this flight to take off. Um we did
25:09
it in a year, which was incredibly fast.
25:11
Um it's a show that goes from sea to
25:13
shining sea.
25:15
Um goes from morning to night, so you
25:17
have a journey that you go.
25:18
>> Oh, that's cool.
25:19
>> And it's got a variety. It has some
25:21
scenes that are obviously very instantly
25:23
patriotic. Oh, there's the Statue of
25:24
Liberty. There's the mall in Washington,
25:26
D.C. There's Mount Rushmore. There are
25:28
places that are instantly identifiable.
25:31
That's New York City. Oh, that's Los
25:33
Angeles and and Hollywood, the Hollywood
25:35
sign. That's Waikiki. There's Hawaii. I
25:37
love it. And then there's some places
25:38
that we wanted to just represent the
25:40
feel of the breadth of America. Oh,
25:42
that's a beautiful fall foliage moment.
25:45
That could be many places. Oh, there's a
25:47
rugged Atlantic coastline. That could be
25:49
many Oh, there's the West.
25:50
>> Wow.
25:50
>> There's the South and a bayou. So, we
25:53
wanted to have the flavors all come
25:54
together to give a a portrait really of
25:57
what we think is so special about
25:58
America.
25:59
>> So, you do all this in a year.
26:01
There's thousands of places you could
26:03
pick.
26:04
And it's a few minutes long.
26:06
>> So, you get a basically a dozen. Here we
26:08
get a baker's dozen cuz we said
26:10
>> How do you narrow that down?
26:11
>> [laughter]
26:12
>> Well, you you start by saying, "What's
26:14
What's your conceit? I want to go sea to
26:16
shining sea." Okay, that means I'm going
26:18
to go from the east to the west.
26:20
>> The story.
26:20
>> Okay, the logic we Yeah, story Okay, our
26:22
logic will be roughly let's go east to
26:24
west and
26:25
>> Yeah.
26:25
>> pop back for Florida at the end.
26:27
>> Okay.
26:27
>> Um and then how do we How do we want to
26:30
start? Hey, we have an opportunity. Why
26:32
don't we start in a different way? What
26:33
if we had a shot that could rise with
26:35
the audience up into the clouds? So, we
26:38
added a, you know, spectacular Artemis
26:40
two shot that starts the show. And then
26:42
it really is that process of saying you
26:44
you really have to select. You you can't
26:46
do everything. You have but you have to
26:48
do enough that gives you a feel that at
26:50
the end of it you say, "Yes, I felt like
26:51
that was a portrait of of America. I
26:54
love that. So,
26:56
filming this,
26:58
>> Yes.
26:58
>> technology's definitely improved through
27:00
the years. I'm thinking back even to
27:02
Circle Vision years and years and years
27:04
ago.
27:05
What was the process like of
27:07
I mean, we saw the picture of the
27:08
helicopter, but like what was that like
27:10
going through all of these locations?
27:12
>> So, we started with technology because
27:14
we were shooting in a year, we actually
27:15
did virtual scouting.
27:17
>> Okay.
27:17
>> So, for the first time, rather than go
27:19
to every location with the crew and plot
27:21
out the shots, we did it virtually.
27:23
>> Cool.
27:24
>> So, that when we went to the locations,
27:25
we knew what we wanted.
27:26
>> Yeah.
27:27
>> We knew exactly how to get it because we
27:28
were moving at a at a fast clip. Cameras
27:31
get better and better and better. The
27:33
resolution gets better with each show we
27:34
do, but we're still shooting with
27:37
helicopters. We did one drone shot.
27:39
>> Okay.
27:39
>> Um but we're still shooting with
27:41
helicopters, and that's what gives you
27:43
the feel of Soarin. That That's what
27:45
gives you that and and really, you know,
27:47
working with the pilots, the pilot's the
27:49
director.
27:49
>> Oh, yeah.
27:49
>> Whatever the Whatever the helicopter
27:51
sees, that is what we're going to see on
27:53
the screen. So, working our team working
27:55
very closely with our pilots to make
27:57
sure we got exactly the shot that we
27:59
wanted. And I think we did almost 900
28:02
helicopter passes to get the 4 and 1/2
28:05
minute show that you did. And our team
28:07
traveled, I think, 28,000 miles,
28:10
>> Oh my.
28:10
>> which is the the circumference of the
28:13
planet. So, we went around the world to
28:15
shoot across the USA.
28:17
>> There's something poetic about for
28:18
Soarin across America, you basically
28:20
soared around the world. Um
28:23
what was the shot that as you're
28:25
thinking about this, now that it's
28:26
complete, that you're super proud of and
28:29
that really Maybe it's a memory, maybe
28:31
it's how it turned out.
28:33
>> You know what? It's hard. It's like
28:34
choosing your favorite child.
28:36
>> I I was thinking that as I was thinking
28:38
>> I do like them all, but they all had
28:39
their own challenges. Um I would say one
28:42
of the most fun things for me was
28:44
bringing Patrick Warburton back to do a
28:46
very special introduction for this show.
28:49
We know what a fan favorite he is and
28:52
how he is a part of what Soarin is. He's
28:54
part of the DNA. So, bringing him back
28:57
to play a very special introductory role
28:59
in this um where he is now a pilot. He's
29:03
graduated. Um but also the fun and the
29:06
wink of him getting to introduce his
29:08
younger self
29:09
because even the safety video for our
29:11
fans is something they hold near and
29:12
dear. So, being able to add something
29:15
while still keeping the memories that
29:16
they know and love is a very tricky act.
29:19
Uh but I think we pulled it off and he
29:21
is such a delightful person.
29:23
>> I love it. So, final question. What is
29:25
something that you really hope people
29:27
take away after they've experienced
29:28
Soarin Across America?
29:31
>> I hope that guests really have an
29:32
appreciation and realize just how
29:34
special
29:36
the USA is. Just how how diverse our
29:38
landscapes are, how magical our spaces
29:41
are, how vibrant our cities are.
29:44
Uh and then in 4 and 1/2 minutes, you
29:46
just get sort of a concentrated feel of
29:48
of what makes this place so great.
29:50
>> Well, thank you so much. You can
29:51
experience Soarin Across America
29:53
starting on July 2nd at the Disneyland
29:56
Resort and I think May 26th, if I'm
29:58
correct, at Walt Disney World. And uh
30:00
you won't want to miss it. It's going to
30:01
be beautiful and we look forward to
30:03
seeing you there.
30:10
Now, getting Patrick Warburton back in
30:13
the flight deck was, I think, one of the
30:15
best gifts that they could give
30:17
long-time Disney fans and I'm really
30:19
glad that the Imagineers came up with
30:21
that that idea and decided to do that.
30:24
And I can't wait to see it in person. It
30:26
perfectly anchors that line between
30:28
honoring nostalgia and then also
30:30
introducing something beautiful, fresh,
30:33
and vibrant, really. And it's a
30:34
completely new look at this attraction
30:37
as we go from sea to shining shining sea
30:40
aboard Soarin Across America. Speaking
30:43
of spectacular milestones, Disneyland is
30:45
still continuing its 70th celebration
30:49
and this continues until August 9th.
30:52
But, as things get close to the end,
30:54
they uh prepared a gorgeous goodnight
30:57
kiss kind of a thing in terms of their
31:00
merchandise collection. And this is the
31:02
finale connection for the 70th and I was
31:04
able to speak with Corey and look a bit
31:07
at the sparkles that are coming at the
31:10
end of this celebration.
31:12
Hi, I'm Mr. Daps and I'm here at the
31:13
Disneyland Resort which is still
31:15
celebrating its 70th anniversary and it
31:18
is continuing through August 9th. And
31:21
honestly, it's going to just keep
31:23
continuing even more because we have
31:25
some new exciting things that just came
31:27
out and Corey's going to tell us about
31:28
them.
31:29
>> Yeah, of course. So, Disneyland's 70th,
31:30
we don't want it just to end on a small
31:33
note. Just like Walt Disney said, we
31:34
want to have that goodnight kiss to
31:36
thank all those guests for being here.
31:37
And we want to thank everyone for being
31:39
part of that 70th and we want the fun to
31:40
continue. So, we have our finale
31:42
collection. You can see it right here,
31:43
right behind me. So, the hues of purple
31:46
and the violets sort of evoking like
31:47
that twilight feel. Something you'd see
31:49
at the end of the night here at
31:50
Disneyland and you have your night time
31:52
spectacular with the fireworks. We're
31:53
doing the same thing. You have your
31:55
bedazzled rhinestones, your bright
31:58
sparkles. What really makes this
32:00
collection super special are Mickey
32:02
ears, our Minnie Mouse ears and our
32:04
purse that all are embossed with real
32:07
Swarovski crystals.
32:08
>> And I know it's true because I see it on
32:09
the box.
32:10
>> Yeah, right there. So, these are your
32:12
collector's items and I can guarantee if
32:13
you want to wear them or display them
32:15
whether they're very comfortable. I had
32:18
someone feel the ears. They're light,
32:20
they're elastic, they're not going to
32:21
crush your head too much. But, the
32:23
biggest one having crystals all over,
32:24
it's very light so you can wear them.
32:26
>> That's amazing.
32:27
>> Uh in addition to that, we have a spirit
32:28
jersey that's also celebrating that,
32:30
too. I love the spirit jersey, it looks
32:32
great, colors and that vintage
32:33
Disneyland sign look as well.
32:36
Um and of course, uh, we're celebrating
32:37
25 years of pin collecting. Uh Uh, so
32:40
why not continue the celebration with
32:42
the special edition pins for our finale
32:44
collection. I love it. The same thing,
32:45
that fireworks, that nighttime sky, the
32:48
purple hues. Uh, one of my favorite
32:49
things to show off is that this pin
32:51
right over here actually has two
32:54
connectors cuz it's just so large. And
32:56
so if you're going to be putting on any
32:58
type of lanyard, you're definitely going
33:00
to need to put it both of those pin
33:01
holders on there.
33:02
>> I love how that pin in particular
33:04
capture actually all three of them do
33:05
now that I'm looking closer. Capture the
33:07
spirit of not just the 70th anniversary,
33:10
but all of Disneyland's history. You
33:12
know, that culmination of 70 years of
33:13
Disney magic.
33:14
>> Very correct.
33:15
>> Connecting with today and yesterday with
33:17
that Disneyland sign.
33:18
>> You are so true.
33:19
>> Very fun to see. There's also a lot of
33:21
other things that have continued on
33:23
through the 70th celebration that does
33:25
continue on until August 9th. And I
33:29
should note that it is Kids Rule Summer
33:31
also at the Disneyland Resort. So with
33:32
these pins, maybe not trade these ones.
33:36
But get some other ones too because
33:37
there's some fun opportunities for kids
33:39
to trade pins throughout the summer. But
33:41
if you want more information about the
33:43
deals, all of the fun that's happening
33:45
at the happiest place on Earth, head on
33:46
over to disneyland.com/overs.
33:49
Also head on over to Daps Magic.com and
33:51
catch all of our coverage of Kids Rule
33:52
Summer and the Disneyland Resort 70th
33:54
celebration. You won't want to miss it.
34:03
Kids Rule Summer is going to be an
34:04
absolute blast at the Disneyland Resort.
34:06
It already is from dance parties to Star
34:09
Wars to Bluey to foods throughout the
34:12
resort. There is so much to do and to
34:14
experience and to see. Not to mention
34:16
all the nighttime spectaculars as well.
34:19
But really Disneyland is firing on all
34:21
cylinders as they're offering so many
34:23
things for kids of all ages to enjoy at
34:26
the happiest place on Earth. And when
34:29
you think about all of these things that
34:30
are going on, I think it's something
34:32
that Walt would have really been proud
34:34
of. He really I keep going back to
34:36
Disneyland hand crafted my day-to-day
34:38
geeking out about Disney and positive
34:40
stuff. And he really wanted people to be
34:42
happier because they went to Disneyland.
34:45
That's why we call it the happiest place
34:46
on Earth. And as I look at all of the
34:49
things that we learned about at this
34:51
media event for kids kids rule summer.
34:55
I can't help but think there's so many
34:57
multiple meanings to kids rule summer
34:59
just because it's not just about kids.
35:02
While that is the focal point is being
35:04
able to go to Disneyland Resort with
35:06
your kids. It also is about kids rule
35:09
like focus on the rule instead of the
35:11
kids. And the the childlike mindset
35:15
rules. It's that opportunity to just let
35:18
go, forget about the outside world for a
35:21
day and enjoy the happiest place on
35:23
Earth as if you were a kid. A
35:25
responsible one hopefully. But I'm I'm
35:27
just thinking of all of these different
35:29
options [music]
35:30
whether it's a adventure out on Tom
35:32
Sawyer Island with that new booklet or
35:35
[music] it's pin trading with your young
35:37
ones. I love that they're focusing on
35:39
the young ones to do this [music]
35:40
because if you've ever seen
35:42
like my friend Annie who's I think four
35:44
now. [music] I love watching her get
35:47
excited about the pins that she's traded
35:49
or going to trade and seeing the
35:51
pure enthusiasm of what this is and what
35:54
it can be. And it it really does change
35:56
your perspective [music]
35:58
on some of these offerings. And so I'm
36:00
excited to see how it plays out whether
36:02
[music] it's Bluey or BD-X droids
36:04
throughout the summer. It is going to be
36:06
a fantastic summer [music] to be at the
36:08
Disneyland Resort. And then it's going
36:09
to be a fantastic rest of the year as
36:11
well as we cover all of that.
36:14
Thank you [music] so much for watching,
36:16
listening, however it is that you
36:17
consume this podcast. I have [music] a
36:20
blast putting it together. I hope you
36:21
have a blast listening to it as well. If
36:23
you would like to connect with us even
36:25
more [music]
36:26

36:35

everything over there as well, from
36:45
[music] music to Disney to Star Wars to
36:47
whatever it happens to be on any given
36:49
day. And I do pretty frequent updates up
36:52
there behind [music] the scenes as well
36:53
that you won't want to miss.
