>> Hello, hello. Welcome to D23. How are
0:08
you all?
0:11
Is this the beginning of the media
0:12
preview?
0:13
>> Second.
0:14
>> It's the second. You saved the second
0:16
for last. That's very impressive. Um, I
0:19
am just honored to introduce to you our
0:21
Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney
0:23
Animation Studios, here to welcome you
0:25
to our pavilion, Jared Bush.
0:31
>> What's up, everybody?
0:33
I got to tell you, this is honestly my
0:36
my most favorite time. Every 2 years we
0:38
get to do this, and it is
0:40
I I it's hard to describe. For, you
0:43
know, any of our movies it takes about 4
0:45
to 6 years to make.
0:47
Um, so to be able to share that with
0:48
everybody uh is honestly for us a dream
0:51
come true. It's like this it's this
0:52
incredible shot of adrenaline um for
0:55
everyone working so hard. You guys are
0:57
about to see Hext. Oh yeah, you're about
0:58
to see Hext, which is right here. This
1:00
is our movie coming out this year, this
1:01
November. Um, and the teams have been
1:04
hard at work creating something I am so
1:07
so deeply proud of. Tomorrow
1:09
you're going to be seeing a few sneak
1:11
peeks of something in that film, some
1:13
big announcements coming out uh at the
1:15
showcase tomorrow night. Uh and I can't
1:16
wait for you to see more.
1:18
On top of all of this, obviously you
1:19
guys hopefully have had a little bit of
1:21
time to to look around the booth to see
1:23
everything that we're working on. Uh
1:24
between Hext, obviously you probably
1:27
already got around and seeing a little
1:28
bit of the Frozen 3 side. Um, you guys
1:31
are going to be seeing some more outfits
1:33
and tidbits over the course of the next
1:34
few days um that I'm really excited
1:36
about. Obviously, we have Lilou and
1:39
Scratch, which is our new theatrical
1:40
short. We actually have not released a
1:42
theatrical short in quite a while. That
1:44
will go along with Hext that I'm so
1:46
excited about. Um, and then there's a
1:48
lot coming from Disney Animation this
1:50
weekend. So, of course there's the
1:51
showcase tomorrow night,
1:53
but there's experiences on Saturday
1:55
night. There's quite a lot of things
1:57
from Disney Animation you're going to
1:58
see there. We have Legends on Sunday. So
2:01
many amazing folks from Disney Animation
2:03
are coming through that. Uh Susan Egan,
2:06
Eric Goldberg, uh of course Lin-Manuel
2:08
Miranda, um Alan Tudyk, Dwayne "The
2:11
Rock" Johnson. I mean, we have a a
2:13
pretty stacked group from Disney
2:14
Animation, which is so so exciting. Um
2:17
and but then on top of that, I just say
2:20
uh and I I really wanted to to
2:21
underscore this. Everyone that's going
2:22
to be working this booth, we have
2:24
signings and and giveaways and photo
2:26
ops, but everyone here are people from
2:28
Disney Animation. It's volunteers who
2:30
wanted to spend time with all of the
2:33
fans, cuz it really means so much to us
2:36
to be able to share this with everybody.
2:37
It's a very very special time for us.
2:40
Uh with that in mind, I actually
2:41
wondered if anyone has any questions,
2:43
I'd love to take some.
2:45
Any thoughts out there? Anything you
2:47
guys are wondering about?
2:49
Deep questions. Yes.
2:55
Uh for Frozen 3, no not not Norway.
2:58
There's actually without giving away too
3:00
much,
3:01
it's um
3:03
I can't answer that question without
3:04
spoilers. So, I'll say the answer to
3:05
that is no, um but there's a reasons for
3:08
that. Um I will say that research is
3:10
such an important part of what we do. I
3:12
think most of you know, um you know, for
3:14
for Zootopia, we spent time on safari
3:16
with a lot of animals out there uh in
3:18
Kenya. Um I was lucky enough uh with
3:21
Encanto to spend a bunch of time in
3:22
Colombia. This is something that really
3:23
matters to us a lot. Going through the
3:26
Pacific Islands for Moana. Uh and so,
3:28
part of being out there and and really
3:30
getting that
3:31
those experiences you can only ex- you
3:33
know, be there with the people there uh
3:36
to experience what it sounds like, what
3:37
it smells like. It really changes our
3:39
movies. So, I'd say research is always
3:41
critical to us, but I will not answer
3:43
your question, cuz I will get in
3:44
trouble.
3:45
Yeah.
3:49
Oh my gosh, my favorite D23 memory was
3:51
what I was just asked. I got to say, um
3:54
so, 15 years ago, uh I was hired uh to
3:57
work on Zootopia. That's where I first
4:00
came to the studio.
4:02
Uh and I think the first D23 that was
4:05
uh after I joined, like a year later,
4:07
and I got to be there with my directing
4:09
partner, Byron Howard, to announce
4:11
Zootopia for the first time at D23. And
4:14
it was one of the most amazing
4:16
experiences of my life. I think part of
4:18
that is at that time you're you're
4:20
saying to everyone, "Hey, we're going to
4:21
have animals in clothes, and they're
4:24
going to have cell phones." And you're
4:26
describing characters um that you really
4:28
fall in love with. For me, thinking back
4:31
on that, thinking the journey that
4:33
they've gone on,
4:34
um certainly last year with Zootopia 2
4:36
is is um again just this unbelievable
4:39
experience.
4:40
Being able to go to Shanghai to see that
4:42
park come to life, see Zootopia land
4:43
come to life is is just bonkers. So, I
4:46
think that's the one. Yeah, go ahead.
4:51
Uh good question. Uh Hex is not inspired
4:53
by The Owl House. I think that um
4:55
we love witches, uh and I think this
4:57
movie I think you guys are going to see
4:59
we have a unique take on witches. Um
5:03
I think tomorrow night there's some some
5:04
little um
5:06
little tidbits you're going to get that
5:07
will help you with that. I'd say it is a
5:09
world that we are creating for this
5:10
movie that's unlike anything that Disney
5:13
Animation has done before. Our main
5:14
character, Billie, is
5:16
um
5:18
yeah, she's a very different type of
5:21
I'll say heroine for now. Um and I think
5:24
people are going to fall in love with
5:25
her. And you guys have seen some of the
5:26
other characters. The weirdo that lives
5:28
in this trailer is part of that. Um I'm
5:30
excited for you to see it.
5:32
Yeah. Oh, please, George.
5:38
Yeah.
5:44
Uh they teach me a lot. I mean, I think
5:45
one of the the most important things
5:47
that we do when we make our films and
5:49
when we tell stories, we want to be able
5:51
to connect with people. That that's why
5:53
we're doing this. And so when you get to
5:56
meet people that
5:57
show up in in full cosplay
6:00
for movies that haven't even been
6:01
released yet, it shows you that you're
6:03
on the right path. And I And I really
6:05
mean it when I say the passion of the
6:07
fans really fuels us.
6:09
Like I said, it's 4 to 6 years to make
6:11
one of our films. That means for four of
6:13
those years, we are in the darkness,
6:16
have no idea how people are going to
6:17
perceive our stories. And so when you
6:19
come here and someone says,
6:21
"The storyline meant so much to me. My
6:23
My older sister is like Luisa and that
6:25
really mattered to me. The relationship
6:28
between Judy and Nick really feels like
6:30
my relationship." So to hear people
6:33
tell us that these stories are
6:35
resonating,
6:36
one makes all that hard work really
6:38
matter to us, but also because it's 700
6:40
people that work on these films, it's
6:42
great to be here and then to go back to
6:44
the studio and share it with everyone
6:45
there.
6:46
Yeah.
6:56
It's a great question. The question is,
6:58
okay, so there's going to be a short on
6:59
the front of Hex which we're really
7:00
excited about. Theatrical shorts is
7:02
something I really believe in. I love
7:04
them. Where Where have they gone? It's
7:07
It's a great question. I'll just say I'm
7:09
excited that they're back. I'd say that
7:11
as we move into the future, there's a
7:13
lot of interesting projects happening
7:15
right now, some passion projects that I
7:16
think as we're looking to see what other
7:18
shorts might be possible. There's a lot
7:20
There's a lot of things out there.
7:21
There's a lot of beloved characters that
7:23
I think
7:24
deserve to be seen. So I My My bet would
7:27
be that you're going to see more of that
7:28
in the future.
7:28
>> Are you planning something special
7:30
>> Oh, one last question. Sorry, say one
7:32
time.
7:32
>> Are you planning something special for
7:34
Disney Animation for the 100th
7:36
anniversary of Mickey Mouse?
7:39
>> The 100th birthday Mickey Mouse is
7:41
coming up.
7:42
I will not answer your question, sir.
7:45
But I will just say
7:46
we love Mickey. He's amazing. It seems
7:48
like we should do something that sort of
7:50
marks that moment.
7:52
I will that's as far as I will go in
7:54
terms of answering that question. Uh
7:55
thank you guys so so much for being
7:58
here. I'm so excited for you to see
7:59
more. Tomorrow night's going to be
8:01
crazy. A lot to to share with you guys.
8:03
And I think now I'm going to help you
8:04
guys come on over to our friends at
8:06
Pixar. So if you come right through
8:08
here, I'll lead you up there. Thanks a
8:10
lot.
