0:05
can you talk a little bit about what you
0:06
guys are doing here today and what it
0:09
Yeah So uh we're we're out here today
0:12
because we are very had a very genu
0:14
genuine uh offer from Disneyland So they
0:18
have uh they offered up heroes tickets
0:20
for our firefighters So firefighters
0:23
first responders police officers people
0:25
who responded to the to the wildfires
0:27
here in Southern California Eden fire
0:29
Palisades fire So uh this was a very
0:32
devastating fire unlike anything that we
0:35
have seen in our lifetime And Disneyland
0:38
really stepped up not only for the
0:40
people who responded but for their
0:41
families as well So uh we're just
0:43
excited to kick off this event for the
0:45
hero tickets that Disneyland has been uh
0:48
has donated to our firefighters and
0:50
first responders Yeah same thing Um got
0:54
the phone call Uh Heidi from Disneyland
0:56
called me up said he won't believe that
0:58
we're offering you I said "Yeah it's
0:59
seems unreal." Uh they really rolled the
1:02
red carpet out for uh me and my family
1:05
and my brother here Uh it's a unique
1:07
experience and we're loving every minute
1:09
We really are uh thankful for what
1:12
they're offering and giving to us
1:15
Yeah What are you guys most looking
1:17
forward to all during your visit today
1:19
We've already hit like five rides So we
1:21
got here early and um like I said the
1:24
red carp rolled out We got fast track
1:26
and we've been the weather's amazing and
1:28
the park is is alive and well We're
1:31
having a great time It's it's fun Yeah
1:33
Yeah and it's real important that this
1:35
today is the kickoff event for all
1:37
firefighters across the area who did
1:39
respond to this fire where they can uh
1:42
they can take a couple tickets and go
1:44
and enjoy the park with their families
1:46
as well So we're uh we had we had an
1:48
overwhelming response from our
1:50
firefighters We posted this on our
1:52
internal fire department website and the
1:54
response was overwhelming Our our
1:56
firefighters are so excited to take
1:57
advantage of this offer So yeah I saw
1:59
the Disneyland firefighters kind of
2:01
gathered in front of the cinema there I
2:02
don't know if you I'm sure you guys saw
2:04
them too I don't know if I know some of
2:06
them work in actual other fire
2:08
departments and did any of them work on
2:11
the fire that you guys are working Yeah
2:12
so actually one of them is is a LA city
2:15
firefighter who's out here with us today
2:16
and uh MLAN and his dad is also a
2:19
Disneyland firefighter So it's a
2:21
fatherson uh tradition kind of like
2:23
we're brothers and our our father is a
2:24
Seattle firefighter but uh no a lot of
2:27
our LA city firefighters when they
2:28
retire they'll go and work for
2:30
Disneyland Fire Department So uh they
2:32
have a very longstanding uh tradition of
2:34
uh hiring LA city firefighters
2:37
Could you talk about what it means to
2:38
the guy and girls that get to come to
2:41
Disneyland after going through all of
2:42
that really terrible time with the fires
2:46
Yeah So our you know our firefighters
2:48
some of them spent uh I was there for 28
2:50
days I wasn't on the on the front line
2:52
My brother was there on the front lines
2:54
He was there for 14 days straight Uh and
2:57
you're you're sleeping on the fire line
2:59
and these are unlike conditions that
3:00
we've ever seen So there's been a lot of
3:03
a lot of the uh sport teams have been
3:05
stepping up uh different organizations
3:07
but Disneyland's really stepped it up
3:09
They they dedicated $15 million to the
3:11
relief efforts and helping firefighters
3:14
firefighter families and the rebuilding
3:15
efforts So uh it it means a lot to us
3:18
that uh organizations the the public in
3:21
general has been stepping up but a lot
3:24
of businesses and organizations have
3:25
been stepping up as well Yeah the the
3:27
way that the public came together I mean
3:29
people unite in tragedy and the
3:32
community in the city of Los Angeles The
3:34
people have really came together post
3:36
the fires and during the fires The
3:38
outpouring love and support that we
3:40
received was unprecedented I've never
3:41
seen anything like it The food and
3:43
donations and just how much people cared
3:46
about us that what we're doing it was
3:48
it's pretty uh amazing impressive and
3:50
still continuing on It's it's amazing
3:54
Uh you mentioned that the you guys have
3:56
already done five rides already What was
3:58
the first thing you guys rode And are
3:59
you going to stop by the firehouse Yeah
4:02
we always stop by the firehouse You have
4:04
four kids So uh like I said fire runs
4:06
deep the family So yeah we'll definitely
4:08
cruise by and take pictures at the uh
4:10
fire station Uh the first Oh we did Star
4:13
Wars first The Millennium Falcon Nice
4:15
Pretty fun ride Yeah the kids like it
4:17
Yeah And and that is a tradition of ours
4:19
Even we came here from Seattle when we
4:21
were little kids and our dad was a
4:23
Seattle firefighter so that was one of
4:24
our stops also So it's nice to carry on
4:27
that tradition like we went through it
4:28
and now our now our kids have been able
4:30
to do that as well So definitely have to
4:32
stop by the fire station Yes sir What
4:34
did it mean to you guys just being a
4:36
part of that crowd Just hearing the
4:37
cheers and everything after dealing with
4:39
everything you guys have went through
4:41
What were you guys feeling in that
4:42
moment It I didn't expect it to be that
4:44
large So it was I we don't go in parades
4:47
so it was it was pretty uh pretty neat
4:49
It was It was fun to sit with Mickey and
4:51
have the kids too in the back uh trail
4:53
behind us It was it was a pretty amazing
4:55
experience Yeah I mean just seeing the
4:57
look on the kids' face I mean their
4:59
their eyes just light up And it uh at
5:01
first we thought it was because of us
5:02
but then we're like "Oh we're sitting
5:03
right next to Mickey and Minnie."
5:05
So so but uh no it just I mean but that
5:08
that look of a of a child's face is just
5:11
priceless and uh so it was a great
5:14
experience for us to do that Are there
5:17
any uh fire prevention or safety tips
5:19
that are maybe lesser known that you
5:21
guys would like to get out there in the
5:22
wake of these fires Yeah we always tell
5:25
people that they need to harden their
5:26
homes They have to brush clearance is a
5:28
huge thing for us Brush clearance saves
5:31
homes If you can get vegetation away
5:32
from your home that's very important And
5:34
what we found especially during the
5:36
palace and eating fire is attic vents If
5:38
you can keep sparks and embers from
5:40
getting into your attic and prevent your
5:42
attic vents that's going to help to save
5:44
homes But we always tell people also
5:46
ready set go You have to be always ready
5:48
Have a plan in place When uh when some
5:51
starts get when you start hearing about
5:52
it on the radio you need to be set And
5:54
then when you get that evacuation order
5:56
you need to go And uh as soon as you get
5:58
that evacuation order you have to leave
6:00
because we're trying to come in and
6:01
people are trying to evacuate He stole
6:03
mine I was still happy He said go I'd
6:06
say uh cars in the driveway was was uh
6:09
an issue for us especially the hybrid
6:11
and electric cars once they started
6:12
taking off There's it's the ember cast
6:15
and just the heat from the car So if you
6:16
can move your cars away from the home
6:18
too and the fire that that's a a useful
6:20
thing to do also So yeah Thank you
