Ian VanGerpen & Adam Vangerpen of the Los Angeles Fire Department were honored on May 5, 2025, at Disneyland during a special Heroes Salute Cavalcade. They are both recipients of the Heroes Ticket. The Heroes Ticket is a way that the Disneyland Resort is giving back to eligible first responders and a guest to enjoy a day at the Happiest Place on Earth! in gratitude for their efforts against the Los Angeles Fires. who responded to the to the wildfires

here in Southern California Eden fire

Palisades fire So uh this was a very

devastating fire unlike anything that we

have seen in our lifetime And Disneyland

really stepped up not only for the

people who responded but for their

families as well So uh we're just

excited to kick off this event for the

hero tickets that Disneyland has been uh

has donated to our firefighters and

first responders Yeah same thing Um got

the phone call Uh Heidi from Disneyland

called me up said he won't believe that

we're offering you I said "Yeah it's

seems unreal." Uh they really rolled the

red carpet out for uh me and my family

and my brother here Uh it's a unique

experience and we're loving every minute

respond to this fire where they can uh

as well So we're uh we had we had an

overwhelming response from our

firefighters We posted this on our

internal fire department website and the

response was overwhelming Our our

firefighters are so excited to take

advantage of this offer So yeah I saw

the Disneyland firefighters kind of

gathered in front of the cinema there I

don't know if you I'm sure you guys saw

them too I don't know if I know some of

them work in actual other fire

departments and did any of them work on

the fire that you guys are working Yeah

so actually one of them is is a LA city

firefighter who's out here with us today

and uh MLAN and his dad is also a

Disneyland firefighter So it's a

fatherson uh tradition kind of like

we're brothers and our our father is a

Seattle firefighter but uh no a lot of

our LA city firefighters when they

retire they'll go and work for

Disneyland Fire Department So uh they

have a very longstanding uh tradition of

uh hiring LA city firefighters

Could you talk about what it means to

the guy and girls that get to come to

Disneyland after going through all of

that really terrible time with the fires

Yeah So our you know our firefighters

some of them spent uh I was there for 28

days I wasn't on the on the front line

My brother was there on the front lines

He was there for 14 days straight Uh and

you're you're sleeping on the fire line

and these are unlike conditions that

we've ever seen So there's been a lot of

a lot of the uh sport teams have been

stepping up uh different organizations

but Disneyland's really stepped it up

They they dedicated $15 million to the

relief efforts and helping firefighters

firefighter families and the rebuilding

efforts So uh it it means a lot to us

that uh organizations the the public in

general has been stepping up but a lot

of businesses and organizations have

been stepping up as well Yeah the the

way that the public came together I mean

people unite in tragedy and the

community in the city of Los Angeles The

people have really came together post

the fires and during the fires The

outpouring love and support that we

received was unprecedented I've never

seen anything like it The food and

donations and just how much people cared

about us that what we're doing it was

it's pretty uh amazing impressive and

still continuing on It's it's amazing

Uh you mentioned that the you guys have

already done five rides already What was

the first thing you guys rode And are

four kids So uh like I said fire runs

deep the family So yeah we'll definitely

Yeah And and that is a tradition of ours

Even we came here from Seattle when we

were little kids and our dad was a

Seattle firefighter so that was one of

our stops also So it's nice to carry on

that tradition like we went through it

and now our now our kids have been able

to do that as well So definitely have to

part of that crowd Just hearing the

cheers and everything after dealing with

large So it was I we don't go in parades

so it was it was pretty uh pretty neat

have the kids too in the back uh trail

behind us It was it was a pretty amazing

look on the kids' face I mean their

their eyes just light up And it uh at

but then we're like "Oh we're sitting

right next to Mickey and Minnie."

that look of a of a child's face is just

that are maybe lesser known that you

guys would like to get out there in the

wake of these fires Yeah we always tell

people that they need to harden their

homes They have to brush clearance is a

huge thing for us Brush clearance saves

homes If you can get vegetation away

from your home that's very important And

what we found especially during the

palace and eating fire is attic vents If

you can keep sparks and embers from

getting into your attic and prevent your

attic vents that's going to help to save

homes But we always tell people also

ready set go You have to be always ready

Have a plan in place When uh when some

starts get when you start hearing about

it on the radio you need to be set And

then when you get that evacuation order

you need to go And uh as soon as you get

that evacuation order you have to leave

because we're trying to come in and

people are trying to evacuate He stole

mine I was still happy He said go I'd

say uh cars in the driveway was was uh

an issue for us especially the hybrid

and electric cars once they started

taking off There's it's the ember cast

and just the heat from the car So if you

can move your cars away from the home

too and the fire that that's a a useful
