On this day in 1932, the Silly Symphony cartoon ‘Flowers and Trees’ was released. The film was originally developed in black and white, but at the insistence of Walt Disney, it was later scrapped in favor of a color version. Disney signed a two-year exclusive contract with Technicolor for animated shorts, enhancing both the reputation of Technicolor and the excitement for Disney cartoons. ‘Flowers and Trees’ won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Cartoon Subject.
