On this day in 1927, the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short ‘Empty Socks’ was released. It was a silent black-and-white cartoon that featured Oswald as Santa Claus bringing Christmas to an orphanage. ‘Empty Socks’ would be Disney’s first-ever Christmas-themed short. Walt Disney directed the 6-minute cartoon and Ub Iwerks provided the animation.
