On this day in 1955, Dumbo the Flying Elephant first accepted passengers, nearly a month after Disneyland opened. The attraction vehicles arrived only three weeks before the park’s opening and extra time was needed to troubleshoot mechanical issues. The elephants were originally intended to be pink to represent the hallucination scene from the film, but Disney thought better of it. Dumbo is the only attraction to have a home at all six castle parks around the world.
