On this day in 2002, “Disney’s Rockin’ the Bay” kicked off a six-week summer concert series at Disney’s California Adventure. Performers with Top 10 hits from the 1960s and ‘70s headlined two shows daily until August 23. The Beach Boys started off the series and were followed by 18 other recording groups like Chubby Checker & the Wildcats, The Bangles, Village People, and The Four Tops. The concerts were meant to draw in crowds for the park’s second summer, but the series didn’t continue in future years.
