On this day in 1936, the Mickey Mouse short ‘Alpine Climbers’ was released. While mountaineering in the Swiss Alps, Mickey and Donald get into trouble with a mother eagle and a thieving goat. Pluto imbibes a little too much with a St. Bernard rescue dog after a clash with an eagle chick. ‘Alpine Climbers’ is the first appearance of Donald’s pet St. Bernard, Bolivar, who made later appearances in print. It is also the only known short with animation from cartoonist Carl Banks who subsequently became famous for his Donald Duck comics.
