On this day in 2015, the Disney Pixar short ‘Lava’ was released in theaters and shown ahead of ‘Inside Out.’ Solitary volcano Uku longs for a partner to share his song of love. He almost loses hope after millions of years alone until new volcano Lele makes her appearance. Director James Ford Murphy was inspired to create the short after visiting Hawaii and learning that there is an underwater volcano growing near the Big Island that will eventually merge with it.
