On this day in 1935, ‘The Golden Touch,’ Disney's 50th ‘Silly Symphony’ cartoon, was released. The story adapted the King Midas tale from Greek mythology. It was the last film that Walt Disney directed personally. The cartoon was not a success because the tone was stiff, the pacing was too slow, and the characters were underdeveloped. Still, the studio learned valuable lessons for future projects. Walt returned to overseeing productions, which played to his strengths.
