5:26
Well welcome to Geeks Corner I'm Mr Daps I'm Katie and we're so excited that you're here for the first Geeks Corner
5:33
during Disneyland After Dark Star Wars Nights Wow Yes They're going on for quite a few of them It'll be going into
5:39
May but we covered the first one last night I will be covering the second one tomorrow night and next week we will
5:44
talk about all that we thought about Star Wars night at Disneyland After Dark
5:51
But tonight we're going to talk about Thanks Daddy Thank you Mr Dad Thanks man
5:57
That's right All right it's time to talk about Muppets So Katie what should people do should go into the chat and tell us who you think the Muppet of the
6:04
Week is going to be this week And Katie who do you think the Muppet of the We should be this week i'm trying to remember who the Muppet of the Week was
6:09
last week Rizzo Rizz Hello Welcome to my P I thought that was a very good choice
6:15
Dang Yeah that's really good Uh then I want to say has Yolanda been
6:21
I don't think so So I'm going to say Yolanda That's a good choice Yeah Um I'm gonna go with
6:26
um I feel like I should just keep sticking with Bobo the Bear because that's like he deserves it If this is
6:32
the only love that Bobo the Bear gets that's something right mhm Um anyway we
6:37
will find out on Friday who the next Muppet to be honored will be for Muppets's 70th anniversary which is
6:44
crazy to think Um I can't believe the Muppets are as old as Disneyland Yeah that's actually what I was thinking is
6:50
I'm like it's so interesting how many things happened in 1955 Good year Good year Like there's so many different
6:56
things that came out that year And uh and even just that era it seems like that was kind of a starting point for a
7:02
lot of different creative endeavors in multiple different industries and fields And uh that would be because is it 55
7:08
when Salmon Friends started is that what we're counting as the starter of the Muppets or Bean Bunny um I think that's
7:14
when it was Okay Um I'm like but it's but like you have the Muppets you have
7:21
Disneyland which completely changed the way that theme parks are
7:26
um are well they went from amusement parks to theme parks the way and um that's the year that uh
7:35
you television ministries really got going then like there was so much going on and I think color was coming like
7:42
television color or color television was coming right around then too and so you just start thinking of all these things that changed around then I don't know be
7:49
kind of an interesting book I guess anyway that's what we're going to focus on this week though is if uh either
7:55
Uncle Deadly or Bean Bunny that's a good choice Um if one of those two become the um
8:04
muppet of the week because that would be awesome Um dogs being weird always Anyway it has
8:11
been a very busy week in Disney news We got a bunch of announcements uh was the end of last week uh about Disneyland
8:18
Resort 70th celebration which starts officially on May 16th So we are getting
8:24
almost to the point we're within a month That's because it's the 8th this week so
8:29
it's basically five weeks Um yeah we're it's coming fast guys And uh first thing
8:36
we learned well we learned lots of stuff but first thing we learned is for World of Color Happiness they're going to do
8:42
things a little bit different than previously And guests will get to vote
8:48
on which emotion gets featured in part of the show So I think there's going to be I think I read
8:55
four Was there four emotions that they said you could choose from yeah I think it's joy sadness anger disgust maybe or
9:02
anxiety Anxiety Yeah one of them One of them Um
9:07
anyway four of them which says to me they have four variations of this show which is kind of cool Um you immediately
9:14
thought of the old World of Color pre-show game Tell about that Um okay So
9:20
60th era I believe it was uh there was a pre-show game for World of Color You
9:26
went to a a web address on your phone Why did I just say a web address a web
9:32
address Am I a boomer anyho um
9:37
uh you went to this website on your phone You went typed in http um and then you could play this game It
9:44
was like a trivia type game Um or there was also like a memory game and it was
9:50
um on Mickey's Fun Wheel It would flash colors and you had
9:55
to remember the pattern and then once you remembered the pattern like it was literally like it would get pretty
10:01
intense because typically you knew who was still in by who was like yelling or
10:06
frantically staring at their phone going like this Yeah Mhm Um and then if you won uh you could turn the fun wheel the
10:15
color of your choosing for like 60 seconds or something Um which is like super fun but I immediately went back to
10:23
that because that is that is one of those in Disneyland history it's like
10:29
you had to be there type of things Um the weird thing to me is I don't remember when it went away Like it was
10:35
kind of one of those things that was here and then a new v variation of the show was out and nobody was doing it anymore and it just kind of died off I
10:41
think it died with the 60th Was that what it was because I think it was for World of Color Celebration Was that what
10:49
that the Neil Patrick Harris one was called that sounds right I don't know Pick an adjective Um it was like Simon
10:56
says and it was I tried to do it a couple times and I was really bad at it
11:04
and so uh I did not try to do it ever I watched other people do it because I would have gotten too competitive Yeah
11:11
it's um you know the scene in Parks and Recreation I reference parks and
11:17
recreation a lot around here but when Lesie Nope gets too competitive at the UN at the mock UN at the high school
11:25
Yeah that's Mr Naps World of color celebrate There we go Wonderful That's why we need Grand Cal
11:32
Stan Thank you Stanley
11:37
Right Uh we also learned this week We got enough about that right you guys
11:42
want to hear more about No no Uh there's a new guided tour coming to Yes the
11:48
Disneyland Resort specifically Disneyland It'll go through 70 years of Disney magic and how it has evolved from
11:54
Walt Disney's original vision and the legacy that continued on with that to what it is today And looking to the
12:00
future as well Um what do you think about this it's a two-hour tour Thankfully not three-hour tours because
12:07
that's that's bad luck A threehour tour Anyway what do you think of a tour i
12:12
think it's fun I'm never going to do it because tours aren't really my thing Um
12:19
but I I think it's like a real Ow you're a very mean dog Um I just
12:25
think it's like Sorry he's not mean He's very nice He's just He has sharp nails
12:30
Um I think that something like this is fun and I think for the right people this is just
12:37
a really fun experience Are you going to learn anything new
12:42
some people will Yeah some people will And honestly I wouldn't be surprised if there was like tidbits here and there that will surprise the normal Disney
12:49
guest I bet there's something in there um that's interesting And uh I will be curious like is it replacing the Walk
12:57
and Walt's footsteps tour like because it seems kind of similar to that a little bit Um but yeah it'll be
13:03
interesting to see how that comes out and how that plays and all of those fun things Uh I do find it interesting that
13:08
it is only a Disneyland tour Well I mean is not turning 70 True but the whole
13:15
areas like the resort technically they So here's my What is What is the
13:21
name of the celebration katie this is where Disneyland Resort that is where I was like if it's Disneyland Resort 70
13:28
celebration I feel like part of that 70th or 70 years legacy which is funny
13:34
because the Disneyland Resort was not born until 99 Yeah Um 2000 Uh yeah
13:41
Downtown Disney opened in 99 That's right Um but it it's interesting cuz um totally
13:47
lost my thought because you got me thinking about timelines Uh you said Disney because it's Disneyland Resort 70
13:53
Celebration You would think the the tour would also be like oh and this is when so Disney California Adventure opened
13:59
and what we have here like you could make it bigger and more I have a great idea Yeah for the 70th for this guided tour
14:08
You spend an hour and 50 minutes in Disneyland and then they walk you over to Disney California Adventure Park They
14:14
don't they are not acknowledging this whole time They're still talking about the history of Disneyland They get you
14:20
till about the middle of the park and they go and this is what it's really all about Cars because why this used to be a
14:30
parking lot That was so funny Anyway when I you said
14:35
the 70th though and for some reason all I could think of because you as like celebrating 70 years all I could think
14:42
of was the song the Sherman brothers wrote for the 50th that got reused 50 years of that got reused for the 60th
14:48
and then I was like it can't work for the because originally it was 50 years of fantasy 50 years of fun whatever 60
14:56
super easy only just begun Yeah 50 years of growing and we've only just begun Yeah
15:01
But 70 years of fantasy 70 years of fun So here's my question Are they going to
15:07
do that song they might I could actually see it happening because they did use it for the 60 It flowed a little bit better
15:13
for the 60 but it'd be funny It was So what Jenny and I can't wait to see Jenny
15:19
said "I can do this." Uh every single year since for every Disneyland birthday we'd always go 61 years of fantasy 61
15:28
years of fun Yeah it's it's a bit that we do Anyway I would Oh and the new verse for it We do get the new verse So
15:35
we do get some Sherman Brothers for the 70th at least Anyway that was I just wanted to go off on that tidbit Love you
15:41
guys That is true Um I'm very curious speaking of the new verse for Small
15:46
World I am very curious how that will sound compared to how it sounds now Like
15:53
how the recording sounds Yeah because obviously they didn't record the third verse with the kids that have been
15:58
singing it for however many years and will the children in our hearts stay young forever I'm just curious if they
16:05
capture that it has that very it has that little bit of a that vintage sound
16:11
to it right now that's that's maybe not quite as perfect as a lot of things that
16:16
are put out now And I kind of like the imperfections cuz nobody's perfect and the world should embrace those
16:21
imperfections And um so I'm curious to see how that plays out and we'll have to wait for a little bit longer for that
16:27
But we do get the attraction reopening this month So that's fun too Thank goodness Third thing we actually there
16:33
was other beyond this but we're only hitting three Uh the third thing we learned is that Magic Band Plus will be
16:38
doing a whole lot more this coming year and that there's going to be interactive checkpoints throughout Disneyland where
16:44
you can go up and uh make something happen with lights and music and whatever And it kind kind of
16:51
reminded me of what they used to have at uh Walt Disney World Oh I was going to
16:56
say the hundth kind of but this sounds like a little
17:02
more interactive Well I'm curious if it's more I feel like it's a little more niche too because it seemed to me like
17:07
one of the examples you walk up to a window and the display does something or whatever And um yeah and so I'm curious
17:15
to see if it's more like the game you could play at Epcot or they had the card game at Walt Disney or at Magic Kingdom
17:22
Oh Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom And so it'll be very interesting to see
17:27
how that plays out And um Roger just said he thinks that uh maybe the third verse will be go into the final scene
17:35
which would be interesting because then you could maybe layer it in and not actually re re-record everything I will
17:42
either way no matter where it is I will end up sobbing Oh yeah I think and I think it will
17:48
sound good It'll just sound different I I'm assuming Um uh mainly because when they debuted the third verse at uh
17:56
beautiful that panel and it was sung by Richard Sherman It's going to mess me up
18:02
Yeah I think Knots did have something like that for Knots has the um it's the the lamp lantern that they do and it
18:09
interacts with other lanterns and all those tings But I think it'll be fun I I think the the one thing
18:15
I'm already anticipating is you find I think it's five of the locations throughout the park
18:21
and I think people will be wanting more if they're Yeah if it's as cool as what it sounds like it could be Like to me
18:27
that's something you can scavenger hunt for or like and they've been doing good with scavenger hunts in the last couple
18:32
years Um whether it was last year's season of the forest or Pixar Fest like they've been doing really good Um I love
18:40
scavenger hunts Yeah Like love scavenger hunts And it's kind of funny they don't
18:46
do more when you think of hidden Mickey fad has been around forever
18:51
Do you know what started my love of scavenger hunts what one of my first vivid memories of the Disneyland
18:58
Resort 50th anniversary Oh looking for the golden Mickey The golden Mickeys I
19:03
still vividly vividly remember the uh golden Mickey that was in Frontier Land
19:09
above the pay phone H and looking for the murals and finding your pictures in
19:14
the murals Do you remember that i didn't do that It was It was fun Um that no they did a lot of cool stuff
19:20
for the but like that's really what started it and it was like I remember going with like um my church because
19:26
that's when you know Disneyland was um accessible enough that you could just go with your church Um and uh I remember
19:35
being like those gold ones Yeah those are special for the 50th anniversary Um
19:41
because I was indeed that kid Shocker I know Um but yeah I I think
19:48
that that's super fun I also think that um things like this that are not an
19:55
extra charge that help put you into the magic like it's putting the magic into
20:01
your hands and saying um this is a special thing that you get to be a part
20:07
of and like you get to activate and whatever Um that is what makes Disneyland different That is the legends
20:13
of Fritier Land that is the sorcerers of magic kingdom That is the Disney difference in my opinion is like you get
20:19
to be part of the story Um and it is accessible to anybody Of course you have
20:24
to have Magic Band Plus That is the only barrier to entry for this So okay What I
20:31
was just reminded of when Star Wars Galaxy's Edge opened Sorry Um you are the magic Yeah that's a
20:39
that's a better one Um it'll be interesting Yeah it'll be fun
20:44
to play with I think it'll be interesting And I will have to actually charge my Magic Band Plus now Yeah
20:51
that's actually my thing is I never charge mine because when I was writing the article I put it in at least twice
20:56
of like be sure to charge your Magic Band cuz I never do I was We don't charge ours We go "This gets us into the
21:01
park Thank you." Um it doesn't do much else for us So that's assuming I remember to wear it at all Uh I forget
21:09
mine most of I really wish I could just use my Apple Watch but yeah not yet Maybe someday All right we are moving
21:16
over to Walt Disney World where the airport transfer service has uh been
21:22
going on in kind of a pilot program I guess you could say for uh the value resorts And what this does is you can
21:29
now check in your luggage if you are flying Southwest Airlines when you are departing the value resorts and they
21:35
will deliver your luggage for you for the uh at the airport You still have to check in though You still have to find a
21:41
ride to the airport Mhm You still have to get your luggage from the airport to the hotels resorts when you arrive in
21:47
Florida but I think this is a very positive step and a good thing and I
21:52
hope it expands and continues to move forward beyond just Southwest Airlines at the value resorts What do you think
21:58
of it i'm going to say my most uncontroversial opinion of the day which
22:04
is bring back the Magical Express Absolutely um like not
22:11
to be a Disney shill or whatever you want to call me Um I think that there
22:17
was something so magical about knowing the second you landed an MCO in the bubble You were good Like you were in
22:24
this amazing bubble You didn't have to worry about transportation Ow you bit me That hurt You didn't have to worry about
22:32
um getting a ride getting a lift Like you said okay here's my luggage So long
22:37
farewell I'm getting on a bus I'm going to Disney Um and I think that that is something incredible Is
22:46
this what I hope is going to be a step towards that yes I hope Like I hope and
22:52
I pray that this is getting us back to that Um but even if it's not I still
22:58
think it's a great thing for GU to take advantage of I also really love and this is something that I think
23:04
we've talked about a little bit I love that it's starting with the value resorts Like I think that that's super awesome
23:11
Yeah I think it is too I think I think it'll be interesting to see what uh the
23:17
next phase is because clearly this is a very limited offering at this point and
23:23
I want to see if it does expand or they're like too expensive and it gets pulled Like either could happen I do
23:29
think it's nice to see that they've put it on the website They've made signs Like there's some level of permanency
23:35
that comes with with going through that amount of effort but um I completely
23:40
agree The Disney bubble was that much more magical the moment you got off the plane and you knew you were completely
23:46
taken care of Um you didn't have to think about and I also Yeah And I also
23:53
think it would make a lot of sense because they were just talking couple weeks ago I feel like um weren't
23:59
executives at a at a press event in Florida talking about how they were really trying to make that Disney bubble
24:06
basically everything like you just didn't have to worry about anything And I think if you can get that from the moment they leave the plane or maybe
24:13
someday Bright Line Train um because that seems like that might be a
24:18
possibility again But uh if you do that I think people are so
24:23
much more relaxed their wallets are going to open up because you're not already thinking of like oh I just spent
24:29
$60 for an Uber or a lift or oh I had to wait like it's easy to wait for a
24:36
Magical Express because you know how long it is and and you're watching
24:42
Disney things on the bus Well no I mean like before the bus even gets there Like they're very good at communicating
24:48
Whereas when you take one of the other services they kind of like oh it'll be here in 20 minutes or whatever you don't
24:54
actually know the same level as when Disney is is running that thing And so I I just think it'd be a great thing to do
25:00
And yes it might cut into the profit margins a little bit but I think in the big
25:06
picture you're going to get more profits out of it because you're going to have more relaxed people They're going to be
25:11
happier with the experience and they're not going to be asking the question of what am I getting nickeled and dimed for
25:16
now and and I think that's kind of a challenge with um a lot of businesses right now is so many times you almost
25:24
feel like as a consumer you you've walked into it and you're like "Oh I expected to pay this and I walked out
25:30
paying that Oh I expected to pay this and it was more." You know like those kind of things happen especially on vacations And if you can make it so
25:37
you've showed up you paid what you thought you were going to pay you do your whole experience you go home the
25:42
only stuff you paid more for were the souvenirs that you knew were going to happen anyway Yeah Um then I think everybody wins I think I
25:49
think you're going to spend more at Disney Yeah It's also like when you're in the Disney bubble and you get to be
25:55
like "Oh especially when you're staying on property and you're paying with your Magic Band." Also there's just this
26:01
level of like "Oh I am totally at ease Um I don't need to worry about cash I
26:06
don't need to worry about," and my big argument for this just popped into my head If you're in the Disney bubble
26:12
you're able to enjoy all of those things you have your your Magic Man Plus on all of that stuff If I'm a Disney executive
26:20
I'm realizing oh I was their driver I'm their way home They're not going to
26:25
Universal Yeah honestly you're not wrong Like it you've kept them in their own
26:30
little safe cocoon and they would have no reason to go over to the other one
26:36
All right that went deeper than I thought it was going to but that's that's okay All right we got the last week a trailer for Phineas and Ferb who
26:44
are returning to Disney Channel Disney Plus all of these things this summer And
26:50
what did you think of the trailer i think it's super cute I love Phineas and Ferb though Like um Phineas and Ferb was
26:57
the age where I was uh I think I was the right age for Phineas and Ferb Like I wasn't super young but I gosh this was
27:05
like what 2008 so I've been like 12 Um Phineas and Fer is just a fun show It
27:11
crosses like and it's smart It also crosses like it's not a quote unquote boy show It's not a quote unquote girl
27:17
show It's like a you can be creative and make things and um like there's there's
27:23
not a true villain either No Like Duven Schwarz is silly Yeah Like Candice is
27:29
always ne like she's always going to fail at trying to bust the boys
27:34
Um there's like silly things along the way It kind of reminds me of the old Rocky and Bullwinkle that my parents
27:41
grew up watching But yeah and it always gets tied up with a bow at the end of the episode Like I I think Phineas and
27:47
Ferb is super super fun Um I think it's written super smart like you said Um I also think the music for Phineas and
27:54
Ferb is so good It's catchy Um disco mini Miniature Golfing Queen still
28:00
something I think about very frequently Um and of course you also have like
28:05
Ducky Momo Um you have uh what was the one I was just Oh uh Dude we're getting
28:11
the band back together Here's my question Is Phineas and Ferb for Disney
28:17
kind of like animeiacs for WB because kind of Yeah
28:24
they different different styles and personalities or whatever Both of them are
28:30
technically kid shows both have very well-written scripts that adults are going to enjoy finding the
28:36
humor in as well Both have really catchy songs that you walk away with them stuck in your head and they're a little bit
28:43
ridiculous also on both both the ends of the the spectrum I guess And um no I
28:50
just had that pop in I'm like they're kind of filling the same niche on either side of of um the studio gates I guess
28:57
But yeah I'm looking forward to Ducky Momo He's your very best friend Um I
29:04
don't know I I think I'm super excited about this Um am I going to sit down and watch like every single episode no I'm I
29:11
am not going to be doing Oh I think I I will Oh okay So then I am going to be sitting down and watching every episode
29:18
Um I meant more like if this was a Friday night Disney channel I wouldn't be like "Oh boy clear my schedule." Um
29:24
that's why you have Disney Plus Yeah Yeah Anywh who um I am just super
29:30
excited for this Phineas and Verb does still hold up It is a 17-year-old show Still holds up There you go I think
29:37
that's really cool Yeah absolutely Uh the other trailer we got this week I
29:43
think there was more more but the other one we're going to focus on was from Tron Aries and I'm excited about this
29:49
one This is been a long time coming We've been waiting for it for a very long time Tron is such a unique
29:56
franchise and from what I'm seeing so far I think they're going to get it right again Okay
30:02
And it's such a weird thing because I think a lot of us saw it maybe I
30:10
shouldn't say a lot of us but if you're like me I saw it as a kid and I was like "Oh okay That's kind of cool." Like I enjoyed it didn't love it didn't hate it
30:17
By the time I saw it the technology had moved on quite a bit So it was kind of that like hm But then you watch it a few
30:23
more times you're like "Oh this is cool." Then they come out with the next one and Electronica comes to Disneyland
30:29
or Disney California Adventure And that was when I felt like this cool thing
30:35
suddenly became a massive world that was really immersive and your imagination It
30:40
like connected right with like oh yeah this is actually what I was imagining when I watched the first movie and when
30:45
I thought about Tron And it became suddenly a it kind of went from a fantasy to more
30:53
of a sci-fi thing Mhm Because the original Tron was a fun movie but I
30:59
didn't actually have the level of suspended disbelief to be like "Oh
31:04
yeah this could totally happen." By the second movie though the suspension of disbelief was
31:11
was doable And um and so now we've got this third one and it's basically
31:16
flipping the formula of instead of people going into the into the digital world you've got a uh an AI person
31:23
coming out of the digital world and interacting and fighting and all of that fun stuff And I'm curious how it's all
31:31
going to work for one because I'm like "Oh so the rules in the digital world now work in the physical world." And if
31:36
you die in the game you die in real life That part makes sense But like even in
31:42
the trailer where they're going down the road and the the ribbon Yeah And I'm like "Huh." So that they figured out
31:48
somehow to make work in the in the real world But um what did you think of the trailer having not grown up with this
31:55
yeah So I think the funniest thing about uh Mr Daps is that he puts on this trailer trailer ends he looks at me he
32:02
goes "Isn't that so cool?" And I went "I don't know what just happened I thought
32:08
Tron was a video game." Um like not like that it was a physical video game that
32:13
one plays Like I thought I thought the movie was a video game Okay I'm not that
32:18
dumb Okay I'm not that far gone But um like I think it looks really cool
32:26
minus the casting of a person that I think is in too many things right now Um I'm scared to say his name because I'm
32:32
scared somebody's going to take me out Uh cuz he's in everything and what do they know
32:38
um but I I think it looks really cool I think the the thing that I really like about Tron um and this is also something
32:45
that I like with like Tron light cycle and things like that is I love neon I love the aesthetics of neon colors and
32:54
um I've always found it very fascinating when they're in the grid in Tron like the racing and how it's all like very
33:02
um what's the word I'm looking for when it um linear Uh kind of
33:09
um anyway when like all the angles and how everything just all fits together and like doing that with colors
33:16
geometric No I don't know Anyway you like angular That's the word I was
33:21
looking for Angular Um he uh so I think that that's always really cool with
33:27
colors Like I I have a neon sign tattooed on me guys Like I love neon I think it's really cool Um and so seeing
33:34
that neon with today's technology I was like "This is super rad." Which means I
33:40
would love if they brought electronica back Where would they put it no idea but I'd like to see it I think Tomorrowland
33:46
they could put I mean Tomorrowland actually make a lot of sense other than they couldn't sell the alcohol which I think was a big part of making that
33:53
thing profitable So maybe maybe Hollywood backlots before it disappears You get that one last harrah One last
33:59
harrah Assuming it's going to disappear But um I I think if you could bring
34:05
Electronica back in any way Yeah Like that would be so epic Like people would
34:11
You specifically want Flynn's Arcade back Well I Yes But no like the whole
34:16
you need the whole thing because they didn't have Flynn's like Flynn's arcade was a fun part of Electronica but if you
34:22
didn't have the entrance if you didn't have the entertainment if you didn't have everything else like all of the lighting that fit into the realm of of
34:31
Tron um even the uh they did a um like a preview thing in the Muppet Theater and
34:38
like you need all of those different elements to really make it special And if they can pull that off again I
34:45
think you know goodwill from the fans like people would just off the top of my head
34:52
several people that would come from out of state just because Electronica was there and and that would be cool too
34:59
Also welcome to Geeks Corner Plus I see it's 9:00 Um I don't have a graphic for that this week Sorry But um no I
35:06
think everything I'm seeing so far with Tron looks like it's going to be great
35:11
Like I think it's going to be a fun ride Is it Is it gonna you know win any Oscars for best picture probably not but
35:18
we're gonna have a good time watching it That'd be wild imagine It would be It would be very wild Um as it is Geeks
