The Flag Retreat Ceremony is a daily ceremony held in the early evening at Disneyland to pay tribute to the American flag and honor the veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The ceremony takes place on Main Street, USA at the Town Square flagpole, which stands at the end of the street, near the entrance to the park. A color guard comprised of Disneyland’s security personnel, along with members of the U.S. Armed Forces, parades down Main Street carrying the American flag.
The Disneyland Band and the Dapper Dans perform a variety of patriotic songs, including an Armed Forces medley. Service members are called forward to stand around the flagpole as the anthem from their branch of the military is played. The service members are then recognized for their service. As the National Anthem is played, the flag is lowered and folded.
Special editions of the Flag Retreat Ceremony take place on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Independence Day. On these occasions, guest military bands such as the 1st Marine Division Band join with the Disneyland musicians to honor America and those who have served.
The Flag Retreat Ceremony is a patriotic and emotional event that serves as a reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served in the U.S. military.
