As we wrap up 2022 and look forward to 2023 I thought I’d take a few minutes to share where Daps Magic is and where it is going. There is a lot to be excited about as we look in both directions.
This last year has seen a lot of change for both me and Daps Magic. The most overt change for Daps Magic has been the new branding and logo. This is something we are very excited about and we feel that this new look embodies the spirit of Daps Magic. We are professional but we also like to have fun and embrace the magic. We have also been working on some parts of the site that over the last few years just needed some extra attention but sadly, the time wasn’t there before to make that investment. This is now changing as we have been working to update some things, fix some things, and polish others. There also have been some changes on our YouTube as we have tried to up our consistency and quality through the last year as well!
The results of the last year have been a lot of fun and gratifying as things have slowly started pulling together. They also have revealed things that we need to look at moving forward. These are opportunities to make Daps Magic even better in the coming weeks, months, and years! One of the big things that are changing is something that perhaps won’t be verbalized a lot, but it will always be here moving forward. It goes down to the core of who we are at Daps Magic and will be in front of everything we do.
What’s in a Name?
When Daps Magic was originally founded the name was Daps for Disney Magic. The immediate question that people asked and have continued to ask for 18 years (almost 19!) now is “what does Daps mean?” For most of the 18 years, the answer was that Daps stands for Disney Annual Passholders. Sometimes the variation on this was Disneyland Annual Passholders. Obviously, a lot has changed since 2004 when Daps Magic was founded. There are no longer any Disneyland Annual Passholders. And while there are still iterations of annual passes to be found at other Disney theme parks and resorts around the globe, it has become increasingly weird to think of ourselves as Disney Annual Passholders out here in California where Daps Magic is based. So the question becomes quite literally, “what’s in a name?” Or more specifically, what is in the Daps Magic name? Today I’m super excited to tell you that we have figured that out. On top of that, what is in the Daps Magic name is completely consistent with the core of Daps Magic’s identity.
Moving forward, the Daps of Daps Magic will be standing for:
Disney
and
positive
stuff
At the core of Daps Magic has always been a positive place that covers positive stories. This isn’t saying we can’t be critical thinkers, or even critical. However, the main focus is that this is a positive place for positive people. There is too much negativity in the world. We want to counter it with kindness and other positive things. From day one, our mission statement has always been:
To be a family friendly website offering positive Disney and geek information, news, and activities by celebrating a mutual love of Disney and geekdom.
This new definition of Daps Magic embodies what we already are and hopefully will make things clearer moving forward. It is also in line with our core values of:
- Fun
- Positivity
- Magic
- Respect
- Family Friendly
- Quality
- Integrity
As we move into 2023 there are a lot of exciting things to look forward to. We will be still covering mainly the same things as we always have. There will be some new offerings, however, in the coming years. Stay tuned to Daps Magic to see what they are! We will be revealing some of these new things in the coming weeks and others further down the line. We are very much looking to a fun year of covering Disney and positive stuff as The Walt Disney Company celebrates its 100th anniversary, Disney+ releases more Star Wars series, a whole lot of additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more Star Trek, and also more recipes/food news!
