A Complete Unknown tells of the early life and music of Bob Dylan. This starts with his arrival in New York City as a nobody and continues as he is discovered and his career explodes. This is a film that has a fantastic cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, and Scoot McNairy. It was directed by James Mangold. The home entertainment release also comes with several bonus features. Below is a look and review of this release.

Quality
It is clear that great care went into creating a quality viewing and listening experience for this film. First off, this film feels right for the era it is portraying. This comes from a combination of things. Part of this is the way it was filmed. Part of it is the costumes, props, cars, haircuts, and even garbage that is found on the streets of New York City throughout the film. A lot of effort was given to make sure the details were just right. This continued on when it came to the audio for the movie. Equal care was given here. The filmmakers even went as far as to utilize different microphones throughout the film! A Complete Unknown is an enjoyable film to watch with top-notch quality both visually and aurally.

Extras
A Complete Unknown has several extras that help peel back the curtain to the making of this film. Each of these was really enjoyable and added to the movie with the information that was shared. My only complaint is that there wasn’t more. If every movie had bonus features like these (and more of them), I think more people would want to buy movies for home viewing!

Final Thoughts
Reviewing A Complete Unknown was a very pleasant surprise and experience. It is a very good film. Most importantly, it tells a good story. Yes, it is the story of Bob Dylan and has some of his music that is fantastic. However, many other movies have had fantastic music in stories about ridiculously famous people and the film just falls flat. This film doesn’t do this. It creates an interesting look at an interesting and flawed person with other interesting and flawed people around them. And at the end of the day, it makes for a compelling story that is relatable in one way or another. This is definitely a film worth having in the home entertainment library. It’s worth watching, then watching the bonus features, and then watching again (maybe not all at once). A very solid hat tip to James Mangold and the cast and crew of A Complete Unknown. This is a solid movie and a good release. If there would have been more bonus features, I would definitely be taking my hat off to this release!
