Disney Legend Mary Blair
Mary Blair is a Disney Legend and was an imaginative color stylist and designer. Throughout her nearly 30 years at Disney, Blair helped introduce modern art to both Walt Disney and the Studio. Animator Marc Davis once said, “She brought modern art to Walt in a way that no one else did. He was so excited about her work.”
Blair was the art supervisor on The Three Caballeros and Saludos Amigos. Her color and styling also greatly influenced Song of the South, Make Mine Music, Melody Time, So Dear to My Heart, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. She also contributed to multiple shorts including The Little House and Susie, the Little Blue Coupe. Later in her career, Walt Disney asked for her help with the it’s a small world attraction for the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. The result was an iconic attraction based on her style. Her work can also be seen in a mural on the Grand Canyon Concourse at Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort Hotel.
