Doctor Who

Season Two of ‘Doctor Who’ Arrives on Disney+ in April

Disney and the BBC have announced when the second season of Doctor Who will be arriving on Disney+ globally and BBC and BBC iPlayer in Great Britain. The second season will be premiering globally on Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 AM PDT / 3:00 AM EDT. This will kick off the eight-episode season with new episodes arriving weekly.

Along with announcing the premiere date and time for the new Doctor Who season, a special guest star was also announced. In the second episode, Alan Cumming will guest star as Mr Ring-a-Ding. Mr Ring-a-Ding is described as a happy, funny, singalong cartoon, who lives in Sunny Town with his friend Sunshine Sally. However, after years of repeats in cinemas across the land, Mr Ring-a-Ding decides to look beyond the screen and sees the world outside in 1952. This leads to some terrifying consequences.

This is not the first time that Cumming has appeared in the Whoniverse. He previously played King James I in the 2018 episode The Witchfinders. This was when Jodie Whittaker was portraying the 13th Doctor.

Showrunner, executive producer and writer Russell T Davies said, “Only Alan Cumming could give a runaway cartoon so much wit, malice, danger and fun. He makes the whole universe of ‘Doctor Who’ wilder and madder than ever, and it’s an absolute honour to welcome him on board the TARDIS.”

The synopsis for the second season of Doctor Who has also been released. It reads as follows:

The Doctor meets Belinda Chandra and begins an epic quest to get her back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, bigger enemies and wider terrors than ever before.

Doctor Who stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor, Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra, and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Previously announced guest cast includes Rose Ayling-Ellis, Christopher Chung, Anita Dobson, Michelle Greenidge, Jonah Hauer-King, Ruth Madeley, Jemma Redgrave, and Susan Twist. Russell T Davies is the showrunner, executive producer and writer along with executive producers Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. The show is produced by Bad Wolf, with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
