Oriental Land Company Establishing Disney Cruise Line Japan

The Oriental Land Company has announced it is establishing a subsidiary for its cruise business. Officially established as the Oriental Land Cruise Co., LTD, it will be known as Disney Cruise Line Japan. The initial startup investment in Disney Cruise Line Japan by the Oriental Land Company is $2.8 million. This will officially be established in April.

The establishment of Disney Cruise Line Japan is part of a long-term plan for the Oriental Land Company, which owns and operates the Tokyo Disney Resort. The OLC said that as part of this initiative, “the Company has decided to establish a subsidiary to accelerate the commercialization of its cruise business and to manage and operate its future cruise ships in a specialized and agile manner.” This is all part of the OLC’s efforts to evolve its
business structure to achieve sustainable growth.

Disney Cruise Line Japan Logo

Along with announcing Disney Cruise Line Japan, the OLC also revealed a logo for the new cruise line. OLC also shared that it is working with Disney to create a ship based on the Disney Wish. This will include “coordinating their detailed design, onboard content, and styling, among other elements.” Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of the Japanese fiscal year 2026. This ship is set to debut in the Japanese fiscal year 2028.

Disney Wish

The Oriental Land Company said that in launching Japan’s first Disney cruise ship, it will introduce a new type of experience of family entertainment cruises to the Japanese cruise market. This will see the expansion of the Disney brand in Japan, which is already quite popular. Nearly every day, guests arrive well before the parks open at Tokyo Disney Resort to be among the first to enter Tokyo Disneyland or Tokyo DisneySea. Long lines can often be seen when new merchandise is revealed or restocked. The demand for Disney continues to be strong. Adding a Disney cruise experience will build on that popularity.

It is worth noting that the press release announcing Disney Cruise Line Japan also references “ships” in the plural. At this point, only one ship has been announced for Disney Cruise Line Japan. The press release indicates that more will be announced in the future. This comes as the original Disney Cruise Line continues to expand its fleet, with the name of the Disney Believe revealed recently.
